The best thing we did for our guests was create a dedicated space for kids.
When kids have somewhere beautiful and purposeful to belong, they settle. And when kids settle, parents get to enjoy themselves. A well-considered children's space means not just happy kids but a fully present room.
It's what led me to create Stone & Acre, where we style children's spaces for weddings and events in the Canberra/Yass Valley region. ??
If you want your reception to stand out, focus on creating moments guests can move through, not just a sit down dinner followed by a dance floor.
A few ideas that work really well:
Late night switch up: After formalities, change the vibe completely. Bring in espresso martinis, a dessert bar, or a casual food drop like sliders or pizza. It resets the energy and keeps people there longer.
Interactive food stations: Think build-your-own cocktails, grazing tables that evolve through the night, or a live chef element. It gives guests something to do beyond sitting and waiting.
Lounge or chill zone: A styled space with couches, low lighting and music where guests can step away from the dance floor but still feel part of the atmosphere. This is especially popular for mixed age groups.
Personalised guest moments: Handwritten notes at place settings, a memory table, or a short story behind each table name. Small touches land harder than big generic add-ons.
Kids inclusive setup: If children are attending, having a dedicated kids table, activity zone or structured support during speeches and key moments keeps the reception flowing smoothly. It also means parents stay present and don’t disappear early.
Surprise moment: Something guests don’t expect. This could be a silent disco, a live performance, outfit change, or even a shift in lighting/music that turns the room into more of a party setting.
The key is variety and flow. When guests have different ways to engage throughout the night, the reception feels magical, and people remember it long after it’s over ???
If you want your guests to actually stay engaged - the best thing you can invest in is experiences and capturing the real moments as they happen so they never forget them!
Some fun ideas that always work:
– Audio guest books
– Disposable or digital cameras on tables
– Interactive content like TikTok-style trends or candid video moments (we can also help with this)
– Lawn games or little activity stations if you’ve got space
But honestly, one of the most underrated things is having a dedicated content creator there on the day. A content creator captures all the in-between moments your guests are actually experiencing, and sometimes moments you will miss while your busy doing bride and groom duties!
Think:
– Behind-the-scenes laughs
– Your friends hyping you up
– Dance floor chaos
– Candid guest reactions
– Real-time content you can actually watch the next day
It also gives your guests something to be part of, which naturally keeps the energy up and makes everything feel more fun and interactive.
There are so many beautiful ways to make your reception unique… the magic really comes from creating moments your guests can feel a part of.
We’ve helped couples turn their reception into an experience with things like:
• choreographed grand entrances that set the tone from the very first moment
• surprise bridal party dances that get everyone talking
• short, fun dance lessons that get all your guests up and involved
• even live performances that become a real highlight of the night
It’s not just about adding something different… it’s about creating moments that feel effortless, interactive and genuinely unforgettable.
If you want your reception to have that kind of energy, dance is a powerful way to make it happen.
Have you thought about including fragrance on your wedding day? A pop up perfume bar would be a fun and interactive addition and guests can also leave with a personally made keepsake. Bride and groom can choose up to 8 scents, create some custom scents that mean something to them, or guests can mix and match to make their own. So much fun!
"Meet and greet magic" is a winner in any event, it breaks the ice, works with any number and agrme range of your guests, creates an immediate bond and leaves guests with life long memories. My magic is performed in your guests hands, it's perfect to get everyerbody involved and excited for your appearance
A wonderful idea for this would be a "Musical Showdown," where the DJ and a live band team up to host a friendly karaoke competition, inviting guests to step into the spotlight and enjoy a playful, high-energy battle for the title of "Crowd Favorite."

Hello,
What about mini Highland cows or mini donkeys.
We provide either the cows or donkeys for your cocktail hour. Our furries wear pack baskets which we can serve bottle or can drinks from or any other party favours. Guests can pat and cuddle and we are happy to take photographs of your guests with their own camera or phone with our animals.
This is a very new, exciting and unique way to entertain guests while you are busy with your photographer and they will certainly talk about your wedding long after it is over.
We of course would also love you to get some beautiful photographs with our animals taken by your professional photographer as well.
Couldnt get much better than this.
Check us out.

Well a fun Tarot Reader can be something totally out of the box, dressed up like a gypsy, or mainstream like your guests but with a fun pack of Tarot cards in hand. How cool would that be?
