What do wedding guests REALLY want?

For our wedding, we want our guests to have the best time, we figure if they're having a great time, so will we. We've got our ideas, having been to weddings ourselves, of what makes the overall experience an awesome one... but would love to hear all perspectives, please!

Through our experience wedding guests simply want to have a good time, feel comfortable, and see the people they care about begin their married life together. Here are some of the ways we've found to give your guests the absolute best experience...

Clear communication: Guests appreciate clear and timely communication from the couple about the wedding details, such as the date, time, location, dress code, and any other important information. We've found a wedding website is the best way to get all this information across in a clear and easy to access way. This also leads us into our next point...

A well-organized event: Guests really (really!) appreciate a well-organized wedding that flows smoothly, with little downtime or waiting around between ceremony and reception.

Good food and drinks: It's no secret that guests expect to have delicious food and free-flowing drinks at a wedding, and they appreciate it when the menu is well-planned, and dietary restrictions are taken into consideration.

Fun entertainment: Whether it's great music, a live painter, giant Jenga or a photo booth, guests love to be surprised and delighted by the entertainment at your wedding.

Personal touches: Little elements that reflect the couple's personality or culture is something we're always told guests loved about weddings. It gives them something unique to remember about your day!

With all this in mind, remember that the day should be about you and what you will enjoy on the day - never lose sight of that!

Hi,

I would say from my experience the Food, Music and Dancing. People want food whether it be at a backyard bbq wedding or an elegant  3 course wedding they need to eat and you can provide excellent food either way. Music is a must have of course, make sure you have a mixture especially for the older generation as well as the young because it will make everyone get up and dance.

Guests usually have two major goals at a wedding.

1) to see two beautiful people get married and start the journey of living their lives together

2) to have fun!

Having fun is always going to come down to the individual, from personal preference of menu or drink items to if they woke up on the wrong side of the bed that morning. Some guests are just downers and will find something to not love about the day regardless or what you have on offer. But ultimately, it's like any party - all you need is good food, good drinks and good music.

If you want specifics, I think having something a little bit extra or fun can be a win. Think photo-booth, doughnut wall or gelato cart! Depending on your vibe, you could even hire a giant jumping castle for adults.

The atmosphere of the venue and music will always contribute to the success of the day, so make sure to pick options of these that you love and will bring the right vibe.

Good luck!

Your guests just want to have FUN!  Have a think about what you want when you go to a wedding.... do you want to listen to long speeches (yawn), how about that downtime between entree and main (awkward, especially when you might not know everyone at your table), and who really sits down and eats dessert (except maybe Aunty Beryl).  Try doing things a little differently than 'normal', shake it up a bit and make it yours.  So many of my couples ask me "what is supposed to be done?", my answer is always "whatever makes you happy (and your guests of course)"

Hope that helps!
