My advice would be shortly after you book your venue! Demand is very high and popular seasonal dates fill up fast, the sooner the better.
As soon as possible! Popular dates book up early for all photographers so once your date and venue is locked in this would be my next step - especially if you find a photographer that you already have your heart set on (and if that is the case you could even ask what dates they have free to take when booking your venue as well).
I Recommend bookiong as soon as you have your Venue. We have most of our bookings from 1 to years from the date. Weddings are seasonal in Tasmania so most of our Couples go for the warmer months. We also sometimes have last minute bookings and because we have three photographers we can alsway cater for anyone that might have last minute changes.
If you are after a particular date in a popular month like November March or April look to book at least 12 months out and we recommmend you to book us just after the reception and wedding venues have been locked in

it’s recommended to book venue and the date before booking the photographer. The trend is at least nine months before the actual wedding. However, booking the photographer shouldn’t be at the top of your to-do list for photographers are not rare like before. The priorities include reaching out to vendors so that you can finalize the two main things: venue and date then do a research about photographer.
Once the venue and date is confirmed you can use so many portals to book a photographer and videographer.
Some of the photographers like me take only 10 percentage of the total amount as booking confirmation and offer free zoom/teams meetings to know your expectations.
Make sure to book your photographer and videographer at least nine months in advance which means ASAP!
Many professional photographers book popular wedding dates anywhere from 9 – 18 months in advance, even up to 2 years!
Photographers typically do extensive research before your big day to find the ideal locations for taking images, so after you've decided on a locations, you can relax and let them do the legwork for you.
The simple answer is…as soon as possible!
Our booking lead rates range from 2 weeks (yes we do last minute bookings) to 2 years. But on average most bookings are around 12 months in advance. And popular dates book out quickly!
So as soon as you have your date set, it is worthwhile securing your chosen dream photographer.
Good luck!

Once you've got your date and venue locked in, that's the moment to lock in your photographer and videographer. Realistically, aim for around 9 to 12 months out, and a bit earlier if you're getting married in our peak SEQ months. Spring through autumn, roughly September to April, fills up fast around here, so a popular Saturday in October or March can be spoken for well over a year ahead.
The thing worth knowing if you're leaning towards video as well: book your photo and video together, ideally as one team. On the day, your photographer and videographer are constantly working in the same tight spaces, your prep, the ceremony, the couple portraits. When they already know how the other moves, you get better angles and neither of them ends up in the other's shots. We shoot photo and video side by side as standard, and every bit of it is edited in-house by us, so the look and feel of your photos and your film actually match rather than coming back as two completely different styles.
My honest advice is don't leave video as an afterthought you tack on later. Couples who add it at the last minute often find their first pick is already booked, or they end up stitching together two vendors who've never worked together. Sort out whether you want both early, shortlist a few teams whose work you genuinely love, then meet them or jump on a call. You'll spend more of the day with us than almost anyone, so feeling comfortable matters just as much as the portfolio.
