BAND: A talented and versatile band (whether a two piece, three piece or more) will bring enormous energy to your night that recorded music just can't. Your guests will love interacting with the band during their live sets, and singing and dancing along to the recorded music played whilst on their breaks. A truly professional band such as INKASOUNDS will have as many songs in their recorded library as a DJ to meet any extra special requests. Thus you get the best of both world i.e. live enterainment plus variety. At INKASOUNDS we work hand in hand to great a unique and personal soundtrack for each of our clients. The music played with reflect you and your partner both individually and as a couple, and we will read the room and take requests from your guests to ensure everyone has the most amazing time! Please feel free to visit us at www.inkasounds.com. Professional Master of Ceremony service also available.

Hi Cristiana,

It is much easier for a DJ to MC than a band. I offer both DJ and MC! It gives me the chance to plan the night and make sure things are running as scheduled.

Kind regards,

There's no doubt that a band brings a sense of Theatre to the evening - and as others have commented here, it adds a "Wow" Factor to the overall event. You also get more versatility with a band - often you will find that they can break off into an Acoustic duo for your ceremony / canapes and then provide a full lineup for the reception - often as part of a single package. That being said, you should always consider your audience and the theme or feel that you want to achieve. If you want people to get up and dance the night away while feeling truly involved with the entertainment, then I would always recommend a band - plus the majority will provide a very strong MC service.

Then there's the DJ option. DJ's can be excellent entertainers and (if you get the right one) can deliver a truly memorable experience for you and your guests. They may not have the same visual impact as a band, but that doesn't mean they can't be as engaging as a band. A DJ would most likely not be able to deliver on the Acoustic duo side, the money you save by not having a band could allow you to hire a separate acoustic act for the quieter part of the afternoon/evening. Most wedding DJs will provide MC services as well.

At the end of the day, it's not for anyone to tell you which way to go or which is best - it's a gut feel you get when you find the right one. You could sit in front of the best wedding band in the world and not "feel it" purely because of the dynamic in the room. The best advice I can give you is to go out and view both options. Ask around, get referrals, read reviews, and most importantly - go and meet the performers! After all - you have to want them to be at your wedding!!

Hi Cristiana

Thats a great question.

DJs are usually cheaper thank a whole band and can play wider variety of music. It's a lot easier in terms of setup and space as well.

If you're looking for something more show stopping and dynamic to add to your wedding, then choosing a big party band will be sure to bring a huge entertainment factor to liven up the party.

Melbourne Premier Entertainment not only has a great variety of both DJs and bands, but we also combine the two and offer DJ Bands. It's best of both Live and contemporary music; because nothing gets more attention and crowds involved than a great voice and live music. Our typical line up can include a DJ, Singer, Saxophonist, and Percussion with option of other instruments, so pick and choose a unique offering to complement the mood at your wedding.

We’ll recommend some amazing acts, and floor dropping singers that will get heads turning all within your budget.

Hi Cristiana,

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! It's a pretty easy answer to this question: Whatever you prefer. Bands & DJs are both great for different reasons, the main thing is getting it right in terms of what feel you'd like for your wedding. Coming from a band perspective myself, you do get a much more personal touch than a DJ, in that the feeling of a live band can be something really special if you find a band you really like.

With DJs on the other hand, your ability to have input in to the playlist is a lot higher, as what a DJ can play on a night is effectively limitless. That being said, at any wedding there's only a certain amount of music you can fit in to the night, so if you find a band you really like and you can work with in regards to the music choices, it'll definitely add a lot.

In terms of MC duties, that really depends on the individual act you choose, as many bands & DJs are happy to MC, but not all. The best thing is just to ask.

If you're interested in any further info please feel free to ask. I play drums in, MC for, and manage the bands Black Tie Party, BARS & Nick Tabone (all on Easy Weddings), and I also run Yarra Ranges Music, an agency with plenty of bands & DJs listed online. If you get a chance to have a look at any of our pages there are plenty of FAQs which you might find helpful as well.

All the best with the rest of your wedding plans.

Hi Cristiana

So many factors need to be taken into account when deciding wheter to go for a band or a DJ.

In a nutshell, bands can only play what they have rehearsed, will take breaks between sets and generally don't do requests.

DJs have almost limitless access to original versions of music though they may find it difficult to replicate that 'live vibe' that bands produce.

Either way, do your homework and if drawn to a band, either ask for a CD sample or an opportunity (other than a wedding) to see them perform. If it's a DJ, look at reviews, feedback, Google rankings etc.

Some DJs won't touch a microphone to MC and that's also the case with some bands.

Very few, in my experience, manage to get the balance right!

Hope this helps...
