Hi
Great question!
The tradition of seeking ‘permission’ is viewed by many of our customers as 'old fashioned' and not really relevant in today’s culture of equality.
While it may be considered by some as the courteous or respectful thing to do, many couples don't feel that they need the parents’ permission.
Many of the people that buy engagement rings from us tend to actually ask for the parents help with the proposal; or they'll ask for the parents blessing/approval together after they've become engaged.
You’ll just have to gauge the relationship with the parents and decide if this is something that they would expect to be done, what are the potential consequences if it’s not done...or will the parents just be happy that their child has found someone that loves them?
I guest there isn't a right-or-wrong / yes-or-no to this one...sorry :)
Hope this helps

Ask a questionHi! I'm Chelsea and I can help you find suppliers for your wedding. Would you like some help today?
As women ceased being the property of their father a long time ago I don't think asking permission before proposing should still be a thing. In my own case if I had asked permission I wouldn't be married to my wife of 21 years as her parents would have said no.
