Hi there,

For a round brilliant cut diamond a 6 claw setting is a very popular style. The 6 claw setting really highlights the shape of the diamond being round. However a 4 claw does allow you to see more of the diamond and when we make 4 claw setting is usually features an invisible bridge that sits under the diamond for security so it isn't less secure than a 6 claw setting, at the end of the day personal taste usually decides the look of the setting. Our designers are available in store to provide advice on different settings for different shape diamonds!

Hi - You may want to consider how active you are, and how much wear your ring will go through on a daily basis.

Are you really active and sporty; do you work with your hands; do you enjoy gardening; etc. If so, then having a few extra claws will provide additional strength and protection.

The size and shape of the diamond will play a role - - for a more modest carat weight, having 6 claws might be a bit too much metal and could detract from the diamond.

Regardless of the diamond size, if you do go with 6, you can request that each individual claw is slightly thinner to reduce the overall visual impact of having more metal.

If you decide on 4, another good option is to have the claws in platinum with a gold band.

Hope this helps

There is no right or wrong answer to this question. Both have their merits. 6 claw is by far the most popular style of setting on a round brilliant cut diamond. The advantages of 6 claw are it is more secure than 4 claw and keeps your diamond looking round. A 4 claw setting can tend to square off your round diamond as it's like putting corners on a circle. However a 4 claw does allow you to see more of the diamond which is quite desirable. At the end of the day it comes down to personal preference. You should pick the design you like!

This really depends on size & taste. Generally speaking, if the diamond is smaller, 4 claws is suggested, if the diamond is large (about 0.70ct+) then people often suggest 6 claws, for the sake of safety, 6 claws is definitely superior.

It comes down to personal taste how many stones and size of the setting.   I personally think that 6 claws makes the setting more secure from knocks it can also give the illusion of the stone being slightly larger.
