Gathered Floral was founded from a deep love of creating bespoke wedding and event floral arrangements. I specialise in soft, romantic, garden-style wedding florals inspired by old-English gardens and naturally gathered designs. We were so happy with the beautiful bouquets and flower arrangements that Catherine put together for our wedding. Throughout the process she asked lots of questions, listened to what we wanted, and made some great suggestions to pull it all together. The flowers ended up feeling so personal to us, and our guests kept commenting on how beautiful our bouquets were and that the ceremony looked like a fairytale with its floral arbour. Catherine was AMAZING! Our flowers turned out exactly as we had hoped. She did the most beautiful arrangement on an arch for our ceremony and the photos are stunning! We couldn't be happier! What are some sustainable options for flowers?

Hi there,

For me, the main way to be more sustainable is to avoid the use of floral foam in your arrangements. Consider the following designs:

bud vases
flower frogs in ceramic bowls
urns / compotes which have chicken wire or reusable plastic pillows
ceremony features which use a combination of urns, low pots/ trays and arbours / floral towers with moss and chicken wire.

Did you know that Prince Harry and Meghan's wedding was all done without floral foam? I actually learnt this sustainable technique from the London florist Philippa Craddock when I did a 5 day workshop with her in London.

Hi there,

If you are considering DIY for your wedding flowers, these are my main tips:

start planning early in your wedding journey. Avoid just going to the market the week of your wedding and 'winging it'.
flower preparation is key to making sure your flowers last and look beautiful on your wedding day. For example, delicate flowers will not last if they haven't been prepared / conditioned.
have a realistic budget of what you can achieve. Pinterest has a lot to answer for!
have enough time and helpers in the 2 days before your wedding to create the arrangements.
have a plan for transporting everything to the ceremony and the reception, to ensure that you have enough space to carry everything and that your flowers won't get damaged while being transported.
for flower types, avoid dahlias - they are beautiful but practically die before your eyes. I find roses always reliable for longevity and their range of colours.

How fresh do wedding flowers need to be?

How long will wedding flowers stay fresh? Can I have them delivered the day before the wedding so the venue can be styled in advance? Or should I order silk or dried flowers to give me more time to work with?

Hi there,

As long as the flowers are in water, fresh flowers will be fine to be delivered the day before your wedding. I usually buy wedding flowers at least 3 days prior to a wedding to ensure that the flowers open in time and are at their best.
