Expert Advice

As a wedding professional, Our Flower Studio offers expert advice to help couples plan their perfect day. Ask a question or read their expert advice.

Is a large bouquet and a flowercrown too much?

The day is yours. If you love flowers and want a large bouquet and a flowercrown then go for it.

When talking with your florist they can often make suggestions and help guide you to make your day the best it can be.

We often tell our brides that apart from the beautiful couple your flowers will be in your photos.

So always have the flowers that suit you and have what you want, don't be swaded by others ideas.

Can you do a combo silk and fresh floral crown?

I've been thinking of making a silk flower crown with the addition of a few favorite fresh flowers. Has anyone ever done this?

Anything is possible.

We often find summer weddings requesting silk flowers with fresh greenery as it will both last better in the heat of the day then some of the more fragile flowers and will last forever, with greenery drying really well. This is something that can be incoporated into Flower Crowns or your own version of a fresh and silk combo can be created.

Can florists typically provide petals as well? :)

Petals can be provided by your florist for your wedding day.

When organising your flowers ensure to inform your florist you'll be wanting petals.

Petals are generally not stocked day to day by most florals so will need to be ordered in.

How does one typically pin on a boutonniere?

I have never seen one pinned on :O

Boutonnieres can be tricky, especially for the first time.

Boutonnieres are typically worn on the left lapel as it is above the heart.

Ensure that the Boutoniere is placed on the outside of the lapel (not in the buttonhole) and that the stem is pointing down.

It is usually secured by placing a pin from the back of the lapel. The pin will then be invisible from the front.

If you have a gold or decorative pin you may want to show it off and then you could pin the boutonniere from the front.

We always include two pins for our Boutinieres for extra pinning, or should something happen to the first pin.

How much training do florists get before they are considered a real florist?

In Australia a fully trained florist will spend 3 years at a Tafe or similar institution, gaining a Certificate III in Floristry.

In other countries throughout the world some also follow this system, whilst in some countries to become a fully trained florist requires a university degree.

I want to incorporate roses from my nana's garden... is this possible?

Just in my bouquet

Wanting to add roses from your Nana's Garden is always a possibility.

It is best to talk with you florist though as some factors may prevent this from happening.

Certain flowers don't always last and specific care needs be taken when cutting the flowers for use.

At Our Flower Studio we like to a fresh sampling of the flower you are wanting to use at our consultation to see if the use of the flower is viable.

How long before the wedding do you set up the floral installation?

Dependent on the size of the floral installaion and the amount of flowers needing to be set up. This will usually take place either the morning of or the day before if access to the venue is available.

Why can't florists guarantee flowers will be a specific colour?

Whilst we always try our best to provide you with the colouring you are wanting, we can not always match the colour exactly.

Nature can not be fought and sometimes exact colours are not available. We at Our Flower Studio always try our best to get the colours our brides want or as close as possible.

If I hate particular flowers, can you create my arrangements without those?

A florist will always work with you and what you are wanting.

Just as we will always try our hardest to get you the exact flowers you want,

If there are particular flowers which you just donot like at all simply let us know and we will ensure these are not used.

When should I start to think about hiring my florist ?

wedding date is 7/4/18

Booking your florist should be done after you have selected your venues and wedding dresses and/or suits.

A good guide is that you should have your florist booked around 3 months before your wedding

if i want to keep my bouquet, should i not do a bouquet toss?

You can still do a bouquet toss, you can have your florist make a smaller version of your bouquet, known as a Throw Away Bouquet. We offer a complimentary Throw Away Bouquet as a Wedding Gift to you and your Groom.

if i pick my own flowers, will they die during the day?

It will depend on the flowers you pick as to if they will last or not.

When picked from the garden some flowers will last, whilst other will not and it will depend on the extent of the blooming of each flower.

can florists and decorators work together?

Of Course.

Florists will often work with other people involved in your Wedding, including the Decorator, Cake Person or even Wedding Planner.

As long as all parties have the same understanding of your Dream Wedding all should be Bliss.
