I am starting to get quite stressed about dress shopping! How does it all work? Some places say they like 9-12 months to make your dress but I am assuming that doesn't include alterations? I am getting married in Oct 26 and have some appts booked for the end of Nov. Just for a rough idea- whats the process? I go and try on dresses, find the one I love, order it, wait for it, then take it to be altered? I am hoping to lose some more weight and tone up before the wedding (I have a whole year pretty much) but how will that work with alterations? Are they usually done closer to the wedding or as soon as I get the dress? Can someone pretty please outline the process for one clueless bride? Yours sincerely, a very stressed gal xx

It’s completely normal to feel a little overwhelmed — dress shopping can seem confusing at first, but once you know the steps, everything starts to feel much smoother!
Here’s a simple breakdown:
1. Try-On & Choose: Start by booking a few appointments to try on different styles. Once you find the one, your stylist will help you confirm the size, colour, and any custom details.
2. Order & Production: Most made-to-order gowns take around 5–10 months (some faster, some longer). Off-the-rack options are available if your timeline is shorter.
3. Alterations: These are usually done 3–5 weeks before the wedding, once your body shape is close to final. That way, the fit will be perfect for your big day.
4. Final Fitting & Pick-Up: After production or alterations, you’ll have one last fitting to check every detail — then your gown will be freshly pressed and ready for collection!
If you’re planning to lose a bit of weight, no worries at all! Just let your consultant know, and they’ll guide you on the best timing for ordering and scheduling alterations accordingly
