There are a couple of factors to consider in the costing of both:-
1. Does the venue charge to slice and serve the wedding cake? If so, it may be cheaper for cupcakes
2. Does the venue supply the cupcake tower or do you need to hire one? If the venue doesn't supply one, you will need to pay a hire fee and security bond and be able to return the tower to the hirer within an agreed time period to enable the security bond to be refunded.
3. Number of guests and menu - will the cupcake be the dessert? Also consider how many cupcakes you will require and how they will look displayed if you have a large number of guests.
4. Theme and style of your wedding - will a cupcake tower suit the theme and overall style of your wedding?
5. Decorations - for the wedding cake or the cupcakes. How detailed is the design for both that you are choosing? The greater the detail, the greater the expense.
6. Travel - are you collecting the cupcakes and/or wedding cake? I would recommend that a wedding cake is always delivered and set up by your cake creator. Cupcakes are packed in specialised, hygienic cake boxes and are easily transported by the bride and groom.
I hope this helps you to get an overall idea of the different factors when choosing between a wedding cake and cupcakes.

It really all depends on the detail of the cupcakes and the cake. Do you have any designs in mind??

Hi,
At the end of the day, it will all depend on what finish you are looking for in your cupcakes. Some cupcakes might have minimal decorations on them and cost less whereas some cupcakes might have elaborate and delicate decorations on them which will add to the price. If you are on a tight budget, let your cake decorator know and she will be able to work out something for you that will suit your budget. Another option you could go for to bring the cost of your wedding cake down is having a Naked cake. These types of cake will cost less as they don't have fondant on them (fondant usually adds a lot more to the cost).
I really hope that you find the best option to suit you.
Kind regards,
Nathalie

Hi Lovely!
It really will depdn on the amount of detail in the cucpakes and/or the cake - basically though, there's a lot of time involved in both so they very well could work out to be the same. Your best bet is to tell the cake artist you're working with that you're tossing up between two options - cake, or cupcake tower (and whether you'd like a small cutting cake on top or not). They'll be able to quote you on both and you can see. Of course if you want/need really cheap you can always go to somewhere like a chain store that bake in bulk and may or may not use premixes instead of baking from scratch - they'll always be cheaper!
I hope that helps!

Hi . Look it really depends on what your designe is . Whether it's a fondant finish or a buttercream finish depends also on the detail and depends also on how many you were after . Usually if a bride is on a tight budget, I suggest A naked cake as they are very was my decorated with buttercream ...
Hope this helps
