Hi!  Yes there are specific ways to cut a cake to ensure you achive the correct number of servings.  I see a lot of people who are worried about cutting the cake, but venues do it every day of the week and understand what is required.

Yes there is a specific way of cutting cake and if not done correctly then you won't get enough pieces that you require. Most places that hold wedding receptions regularly know how to cut a wedding cake properly.

Well Usually the bottom tier is cut .  Some couples might cut a wedge and serve it to each other . But Its also up to you as to how you would like to cut it .

Cutting the cake is referred to as first duty of you being husband and wife.

Usually the bottom tier is the cake layer to cut using a sharp knife, usually with a ribbon, colour of choice  on the handle. Photographer will take of photo you both cutting the cake.  The caterers will help with bringing in of the utensil to cut the cake, then take the cake aside to cut the rest for guests. It is traditional to have the top tier for your 1st wedding anniversary if you are having a delicious fruit cake.

Hope this helps.
