What is the process for marrying overseas?

My son and his fiance want to have a "wedding" in the UK. Do they marry here 1st? Then ceremony there? He is a US citizen, she is both a US citizen and has UK citizenship. Would it be easier to get a license in the US, marry before they get on the plane and then have a commitment ceremony there?

The couple can decide to get married in which ever country they want. Overseas countries recognise legal marriages performed in their country.

I'm sure a local UK celebrant can clarify the requirements of the UK when planning their wedding ceremony, as paperwork may vary from country to country.

Your son and his fiance can decide where they want their dream wedding to be. They don't have to increase their costs by duplicating anything. Most countries recognise legal mariages performed overseas. They can make enquiries to find marriage celebrants in the UK who can advise them about the specifics of their paperwork and requirements as that does vary between countries. Good luck with their planning.

They can marry wherever they choose and the wedding would be recognised in each of the countries you mention.

it is more about where they would like to marry.
