Yes, but it does not include marriage as described in the marriage act 1961.

Such ceremonies are usually called commitment ceremonies and can be very beautiful. It may be possible in the future to marry same sex couples legally.

I have been actively supporting same sex marriage for many years. I believe that no-one should be excluded from the joy of publicly celebrating their love in marriage and that society needs to recognise that difference is an important part of our who we are. Recently I published two articles on this subject on the Australian Independent Media Network.  One called "Tony Abbott needs Marriage Equality" (https://theaimn.com/tony-abbott-needs-marriage-equality/) and the second "Vote Yes to bring down the Wall" (https://theaimn.com/vote-yes-to-bring-down-the-wall/)

I have done several same sex commitment ceremonies. I cannot wait until it is legal to conduct the actual wedding

Same sex commitment ceremonies are reasonably common however I believe many same sex couples are waiting for the day marriage is legalised.

I have conducted a number of same sex commitment ceremonies, including one at the Newtown Festival 2015 where there was a competition being conducted for same sex couples to propose on stage and win prizes.  As a part of that prize, I conducted a commitment ceremony on the spot and also promised a wedding to the couple once marriage equality becomes legalised.

Good luck with your ceremony,

Mary

Hello, yes I have done about thirty of them to date.  Each one has been very unique and a lot of fun.  They have been at all kinds of places, venues, clubs, private gardens, public gardens and some in their own homes.  Just awesome!  Then later down the track I have named their beautiful babies.  Just amazing!

YES! I am a huge supporter of marriage equality.

In fact, I see the LBGTI as my own community, having grown up with gay parents, myself.

I love working with same sex couples to create a really meaningful ceremony. And I include in my package the legal lodgement of marriage documentation. Personally, I am convinced that it's just a matter of time before marriage is available to all Australians over the age of 18, so I will be there first in line to legalise your marriage, when the time comes.

I always ask, why wait for someone to tell you it's OK to make that commitment?
