If you signed legal documents in China, then you are legally married and can't get married again unless you get divorced and you certainly don't want to do that. However if you have a diligent celebrant, she/he will be able to tactfully explain to your guests that although you were married in China, you now want to celebrate with family and friends here in Australia and that you are doing a renewal of vows.....such a lovely thing to do! You can still get a beautiful certificate from your celebrant, just not a marriage certificate. If your celebrant doesn't make a point of telling your guests that it's a renewal of vows ceremony, they risk losing their registration which is something none of us want to do. Good luck with it all and I hope you have an amazing Renewal of Vows ceremony!!

You cannot marry twice nor can you have a fake ceremony.

My advice would be to have a celebration and renewal of your marriage

I can help with that

Hello there, as you were legally married in China 2 years ago, unfortunately you can not get married again in Australia. You can have a renewal of vows ceremony.  The ceremony can includes readings, exchanging vows and you can even exchange rings, exactly as you would want a wedding to go with your Australian friends but without the legal wording.

Best wishes, to you both

Your Australian wedding can only be a Renewal of Vows Ceremony, which can be planned like a wedding ceremony, you can dress as a bride and groom, have a bridal party, exchange your vows & ring exchange.  However, there will be no legal wording used.  With the help of your celebrant you can create a beautiful personalized ceremony to reflect your love and continued commitment to one another.

What would you like from your day?  You can still dress as a bride, still walk down the aisle, have your family and friends gather.  You can still say some wonderful vows together and still sign a beautiful certificate.  You will not have official wording said or have the marriage registered in Australia as you are already married.  It can still be a wonderful occasion.

Hi there, if it was a legal wedding in China, then no you cannot be married twice. But, you and your Celebrant can create a personal renewal of Vows ceremony, a beautiful Ceremony without any use of legal wording. Have fun with your family and friends an rejoice in the love you have for each other. Good Luck!

If it is a legal marriage then you cant get married again but you could do a renewal of vows without the Monitium(legal part)

Hello there,

As you were married in China 2 years ago, unfortunately you can not get married in Australia.  What you can do though is to have a renewal of vows ceremony.  The ceremony includes readings, exchanging vows and you can even exchange rings, so, it is almost a wedding ceremony but without breaking the law!

Best wishes, to you both, Lianne
