* I have lots of experience in working with diverse cultural and religious backgrounds
* I can perform your ceremony in French, Italian, Spanish or Farsi - for the benefit of family and guests
* I will do my best to accommodate your specific wishes and requirements

Changing identification after marriage?
Hi I am just wondering if by-law after marriage if you can take his last name and still keep your maiden name on your ID.
Claudette, Sydney Marriage Celebrant
If you legally change your surname (after marriage in this case, or in any other change of name context), then that 'official' name will be one that will appear on any identification documents such as your licence and passport etc.
That will be your legal and correct name.
You are free to use your maiden name in a social context, and any context where proper legal identification is not a requirement. Other than that, once your change of name has been effected, you will need to change your identification documents to reflect your new name (other wise you also cannot use them to prove your identity if they are still in your maiden name).

This is obviously an issue that stirs up a lot of emotion on both sides of the argument, but that’s just it … it is an argument, and whether or not you want to import that into your wedding day is really a personal choice. We all need to temper our emotions with a bit of reason.
Whatever you opinion is on the matter, the question to ask yourself is WHY is it important to ME to make a statement about this issue in the context of my wedding, and whether it would achieve anything constructive at the end of the day.
How would it affect YOU whether you obtain the products and services for your wedding from suppliers who maintain one particular view over another? If you find that it does in fact affect you, then make your choice accordingly.
Basically you need to establish whether it is relevant for you, or not, to politicize your wedding day.
Whatever decision you make, I wish you a really beautiful wedding day.
