Questions and Answers

We are getting married early next year and would like to know if we can actually write our own vows, or can we only say the legal ones in our ceremony?

Rubies & Lace Ceremonies

You can certainly write your own vows - as long as the legal vows are also included in the ceremony.  Most couples say the legal vows first, then add their own to really personalise what they want to say to each other.

We would both like quite a traditional wedding, but I don't want to play favourites with my parents. Can my mother and father both walk me down the aisle and "give me away"?

Rubies & Lace Ceremonies

Yes - of course both your parents can walk you down the aisle.  It's not a legal requirement, so choose whoever you like!

My partner is a tradesman and can't wear jewellery (especially a ring) to work. Is it a legal requirement for the the groom to receive a wedding ring, or can it just be the bride?

Rubies & Lace Ceremonies

I find that most couples both exchange wedding rings, but it is NOT a legal requirement.  It would definitely be okay for just you to receive a ring - but you could suggest to your partner that he too receives a ring during the ceremony, but only wear it when he's NOT working.

My partner and I are getting married late 2020 and I refuse to get stressed whilst organising our big day. However, my future mother-in-law seems to think she can make a lot of the decisions about our wedding day - but it's our day, not hers! Any suggestions?

Rubies & Lace Ceremonies

Could your partner talk to his mother and explain that while you are both grateful for any suggestions, you'd be happier if all the planning was left to both of you.  Perhaps if you gave your partners mother a "job" on the day, she would be a bit happier.  Could she be one of the witnesses, or perhaps do a reading as part of the ceremony.  Good luck!

My husband and I are both extremely happy with our decision to ask Doreen from Rubies and Lace Ceremonies to be our Celebrant. Doreen made us feel relaxed and comfortable from the very first meeting. Her gentle care, encouragement and suggestions were a great help especially for a nervous bride and groom to be writing their own vows. Her prompt replies and assistance only highlighted to us her amazing professional manner and that we had 100% made the right choice.

Doreen form Rubies and Lace was friendly and helpful throughout the whole pre-nuptial process, she took the time to get to know my husband and I, and kept us at our ease during the ceremony! We had such an amazing experience my sister chose Doreen for her wedding ceremony two years later!
