"From the lead-up to our wedding day, Shelley was a warm, calming and comforting celebrant and a perfect addition to our wedding day. She spoke us through the process, how the day would look and even step by step during the actual day. A wedding day can be busy, stressful and overwhelming, but Shelley made both my husband and myself feel so at ease during the whole process. Shelley even gave us prompts throughout the ceremony, so we always knew what was coming next and what to do. We are so grateful to have had her on board for our wedding. We can't thank her enough and highly recommend Shelley to any future couples wishing to tie the knot". — D

"I don't even know where to start. Shelley, you are simply amazing, and I cannot recommend you enough. Shelley made sure the whole process leading up to the day was super easy, we had multiple catch-ups to ensure everything was on track and everything was how we wanted it. And it exceeded our expectations. I was so nervous on the day, and when I saw Shelley, she instantly made me feel at ease. I wish I could relive it all over again. Shelley, I can't thank you enough." — Josh + Kelly.
About
Hi! I'm Shelley and when I'm not out helping people tie the knot you can usually find me out with my other love, my little Honda CBR. No helmet hair on your wedding day though, I promise! I have two boys (22 and 12) and yes even with the age gap they still argue lol. And my favourite thing to do after a wedding is come home and curl up on the couch with my furbaby, Ted. I live with my husband and we're out on the water whenever we can!

Get Expert AdviceIs it possible to sign for a marriage but not register it until 4 months later
We have booked our church wedding but it is not an auspicious date for marriage in the Chinese calendar. My parents say it's bad luck to be married then. So we are organising a Chinese tea ceremony 4 months earlier on a good date, but my parents now want a celebrant to officiate and for us to sign and register then, but my bride doesn't want that date on our certificate. Can we sign, but not register it, and just wait for the church wedding to be officially married?
How does a celebrant work?
What is the process and what should we expect from a Celebrant when choosing the right one.
Shelley Schmaling Celebrant
Great question!
We all work differently and may follow many different processes.
At the very least your celebrant should be guiding and helping you with your legal paperwork.
As every wedding and every couple is different I adapt my process to suit my couple.
I usually start by offering a no- obligation catch up. A nice and relaxed (No pressure) catch up so coupes can suss me out and get a feel for my style.
If the couple decides to book me I ask for a non-refundable booking fee.
We'll then have a planning session where we'll get the legal paperwork out of the way. I'll also spend some time getting to know the couple, talking through what they do and don't want for their ceremony. This is often an eye opener for couples.
I'll then usually touch base about 6 weeks before the wedding with a draft copy of the ceremony script for review.
I'll organise a pre- wedding catchup/rehearsal for a week or so before the wedding. At that catchup we'll talk through what will happen on the wedding day. We'll finalise your paperwork and just spend some time reconnecting.
I'm usually at the ceremony about an hour before and hang around until it seems right to say goodbye.
Your celebrant will then lodge your paperwork with your states bdm so they can register your marriage.
I hope that helps a little. There is so much more involved and each couple has different needs but hopefully this gives you an idea.
You're welcome to ask any questions!

Hey there! Unfortunately no. The Marriage Act requires the celebrant to forward the official certificate of marriage and the NOIM (together with supporting documents) to the BDM in the state or territory in which the marriage was solemnised within 14 days of the marriage being solemnised.
