When guests ask "what should I wear to the wedding", what do I tell them?!

Are they asking me because they're not sure about dress codes, or avoid the bridal party colours maybe?

Choosing an appropriate outfit to wear to a wedding can be very confussing, especially if guests are unsure how formal or casual the wedding will be. Giving your guests a dress code can narrow down the choices for them. It's a good idea to add a little desciption to the dress code you have selected for your big day. Such as:

Black Tie:

Women - floor length gowns

Men - Suit with black bowtie

Formal:

Women - formal gown

Men - Suit with tie

Cocktail:

Women - above knee hem is appropriate or evening pant suit

Men - Suit, tie optional

Smart Casual:

Women - can be a dress (hems not too short) or separates. Outfits with a degree of polish, but ultimatley informal in nature.

Men - dress pants or chinos, button up shirt or dressed up t-shirt.

I hope this helps

As weddings these days can range from extremely casual to black tie affairs, it's no wonder guests can be confused about what to wear.

Telling your guests how formal your wedding will be can help them make appropriate choices.  If you want to share the colour of the bridal party  this can also let your guests know which are no-go colours.

Perhaps if you ask your guests what they feel comfortable in and what they are thinking of wearing you will be able to advise them if it is ok or not.

Hope this helps
