Is it common for brides to be pregnant on their wedding day?

Hi there, it happens quite often either planned or unplanned, and depending on the timing, if you are having your gown made to measure adjustments to the design or fit can be made. It's really importsant that you let your designer/dressmaker know as soon as possible as the fittings need to be closer to the wedding date than they would otherwise be. Sometimes it's all part of the plan, I have made so many beautiful gowns for pregnant clients including two heavily pregnant with sets of twins. They both looked absolutely glowing and beautiful at their weddings!

is designing a dress always more expensive than purchasing one?

The short answer is no.....when you are purchessing an off the rack gown there is usually multiple alterations needed as they are quite fitted garments with a long hemline, this needs to be just right. By the time you add the alteration costs which can easily be hundreds of dollars, quite often, value for money spent, goes with a custom made gown.....The price of a couture gown includes it having perfect propotions and fitting like a glove. It's worth keeping this in mind and exploring both options to see what you get for your money. A good designer is happy to guide you if you are working to a budget, always ask what the alteration fees are on a ready to wear gown before making the decission to purchess!

Extremely petite and not sure if trying on dresses will be worth it?

I am super short and very slender so I know I will disappear under a dress. Is it worth booking an appointment, as trying on dresses may be disheartening and difficult for my family to watch. Should i just have my dress custom made?

I suggest you make an appointment with a couture designer, when petite girls come to see me I pin in my samples and drape fabrics and laces around them to create the correct proportion and show the shapes and sillouettes that will work best. If you are petite it is best to have your gown made to measure so the propotions suit your shape and height, it's a really lovel experience if you go to someone who is a skilled designer and can work with your individual shape, style and budget. If you need help,we'd love to chat to you in more detail about what we can do.

pros and cons of getting your dress custom made by a designer?

The pro's of getting your wedding gown custom made by a designer far outway the cons! A good designer can incorporate your own unique style into a beautifully made gown which highlights your best assets, flaters your shape and colouring, is in total proportion to your figure and makes you feel absolutely confident and beautiful on yoour big day......hard to top really! Most designers have samples you can try on and you can see what you are ordering before hand, you will know you have the right designer when you have a feeling of absolute trust and the excitement of being fitted and having the gown evolve into your dream is hard to beat! Make sure you check referances and work before deciding who you go with, a couture gown may seem to cost alot more than an off the rack gown at first glance althoough it's important to remember the pricing includes all fabrics and fittings, there are no hidden alteration charges like with off the rack gounds which often don't get taken into account when girls are purchasing ready to wear gowns and can run into hundreds of dollars or more. Couture gowns are made to fit exactly, made of quality fabrics, made to your exact requirements and made in Australia, from high quality materials, compared to the synthetic, made off shore alternative, value for money spent is incomparable!

Can I get a dress designer to re-create a gown for me that I love but is unavailable?

I really love this gown, but I can only get it in europe, and I would prefer to try it on and have some input, will an aussie dress designer be offended by having to essentially mimic someone else's design?

Hi Alana, In short, a good designer can look at the gown you love the idea of, show you what will work best on your body and colouring and create the perfect gown just for you. We love working with our clients and advising them on their dream gown, maybe it's the type of fabric or cut that you love, depending on what it is you're drawn to in the gown you've seen, the best way to find out what's possible is to book in a consultation and have a chat.
