When you’re looking for wedding day inspiration, it’s easy to focus solely on the flowers or the food, but it’s the atmosphere that’ll really be the thing everyone remembers. In the case of this couple’s Pier One wedding, the atmosphere was absolutely unforgettable: a rare combination of buzzing entertainment, punchy details and big energy.
Captured by Lara of Society Photography, this wedding takes the cake for being one of the most vibrant waterfront weddings on Sydney Harbour we’ve seen in quite some time. Not only did the decor include splashy, colourful florals in lilac, blush and ivory tones with pops of hot pink, but there were also crystal chandeliers and luxe rose gold details throughout the reception.
Kate & Co Events handled the planning and styling for both the ceremony and reception. We recently caught up with Lara to get the full scoop on this stunning event. She says, “We were very impressed with what Kate’s team created for the couple!” The wedding ceremony was held on the pier overlooking Sydney Harbour, followed by cocktails, dinner and dancing at the spacious Bridge Marquee, which has an open-air feel with its transparent walls.

Tell us about this gorgeous Pier One wedding.
We were the couple’s wedding photographers, and we were referred to them by their friends, whose wedding we also photographed. Their wedding all took place at Pier One Sydney Harbour.Their ceremony was held on the outdoor Pier overlooking stunning Sydney Harbour and their reception took place inside the Bridge Marquee.On the day, we started off by capturing photos of the bride at Pier One, where she got ready with her bridal party & some family in one of the beautiful corner rooms, which had a huge deck with amazing views of the Harbour Bridge and across to Luna Park. The deck even looked directly down onto the Pier, where the ceremony would take place!There was such a buzzing, excited energy with her nearest and dearest helping her to prepare, while we kept a sneaky eye on what was happening below as the finishing touches were applied to the Pier ceremony set up.It was a warm first day of summer for their ceremony on the outside Pier, which featured the Jewish tradition of the groom breaking the glass. After the ceremony and some family portraits down on the Pier, we headed up to the Bridge Marquee to take some photos with the couple inside their reception room, before guests arrived.We were pretty blown away with how amazing the room looked!The reception was jam packed full of entertainment, including fireworks as the couple and bridal party entered the room, professional dancers, the Hora, confetti rain for their bridal waltz, and a special outdoor fireworks display across the harbour towards the end of the night!The whole day was very relaxed and fun, and having everything take place at the one venue meant we/and the couple didn’t need to worry about organising cars or transport, you could just walk everywhere so from that aspect it was awesome.
Where did you take the couple’s wedding portraits near Pier One?
As guests started moving up to the Bridge Marquee for cocktails and canapés, we went off for location photos with the couple and bridal party around the venue and in The Rocks. The couple really wanted to incorporate architecture into their photos, so we captured some shots with them and the bridal party under the structures of the Harbour Bridge.The bride had always loved the ivy wall along Hickson Rd so it was a must to have some photos taken there too. It was fantastic being able to walk out the door of Pier One, with such close and easy access to some great photo locations, while fulfilling the desires of the couple.
If you were asked to describe Pier One wedding venue to another couple, how would you describe it? Were there any features that really stood out to you?
One of the best features of Pier One is that every aspect of your wedding can take place there, from getting ready through to the reception; so it has a one-stop-shop appeal, adding versatility for couples. The venue itself is elegant, sophisticated, modern and timeless, with a relaxed feel.The fantastic location is a key feature, with amazing views to the Harbour Bride and Sydney Harbour. As a photographer, it’s wonderful to have such easy access to so many great photo locations, which can all be reached on foot, taking the hassle out of having to worry about transport and parking, which can often eat into our time on a wedding day, especially when you’re right in the heart of the city.
What event spaces did the couple utilise at their Pier One wedding?
The Bride got ready in one of the corner rooms, overlooking the harbour. Ceremony on the Pier and the reception inside the Bridge Marquee. It was impressive that all of these areas had awesome views to the harbour & it was so easy to move between each room.
For couples planning a wedding in this area, are there any highlights you’d like to share with them?
The location of the venue is perfect for couples who may be travelling from out of town (as this couple did), as there is a vast array of accommodation options for guests (including the venue itself). There are fabulous photo locations all within walking distance of the venue, including the Harbour Bride, views over Sydney Harbour and quirky historical buildings and the charm of The Rocks.
