Some love stories start with a spark, and others with a friendship. Maddy’s and Nic’s was the latter. The pair met whilst studying at the University of Melbourne, spending a year as friends before taking the plunge into a relationship. Years later, during a family holiday at Nic’s ancestral home of Kythera, Greece, Nic woke Maddy up for a 6am sunrise hike. The early wake-up was worth it, as Nic popped the question to a still half-asleep Maddy (as she jokes)!

Just down the road from where their love story began, in November 2025, Maddy and Nic celebrated the ultimate wedding weekend, which perfectly captured their shared life in Melbourne.

A ceremony steeped in meaning

Maddy and Nic’s service took place at St John Greek Orthodox Church on Lygon Street. A meaningful place for its cultural and religious significance, and also directly across the road from where they live. Since moving to Melbourne eight years ago, Nic has visited the church regularly, making it an anchor point in their lives.

On the morning of the wedding, Nic and his family walked down the alleyway from their home to the church, a moment described as “incredibly special”. And, in true Melbourne fashion, the guests jumped on the tram to travel from ceremony to reception.

A tram ride to Zinc Fed Square

From one Melbourne icon to another, via a Melbourne icon! The guests travelled from the church to Federation Square and enjoyed a celebration drink at Taxi Bar before a stroll along the Yarra to Zinc Fed Square, where cocktail hour kicked off.

For Maddy and Nic, Zinc ticked every box. They wanted a venue that felt inner-city yet not like a traditional reception centre: something modern, open, and elegant.

Why Zinc Fed Square ‘the one’

  • Exceptional hospitality: “Amber and the team went above and beyond. Nothing was too big or too small — they truly made us feel like the only wedding that mattered.”
  • Inner-city charm with greenery: Surrounded by trees on the river’s edge, Zinc felt like a hidden gem.
  • A perfect layout: Spacious yet intimate, with great flow between dining, dance floor, bar, and balcony.
  • Flexible menu and packages: A huge selection of food and drink options with the ability to mix and match without extra costs.
  • Unmatched value: “For what you get, Zinc is definitely a standout.”

Food, glorious food

Zinc catered the reception, and the guests are still telling Maddy and Nic it was the best wedding food they’ve ever had.

Recovery at Zinc Fed Square

For recovery, the festivities continued at Zinc. Using the balcony and front bar, they hosted all 160 guests for a recovery brunch. “We didn’t get to talk to everyone on the day, so we really treasured this time. Plus, who doesn’t love a big wedding debrief?”For Maddy and Nic, the weekend was more than a wedding — it was a love letter to the life they’ve built together in Melbourne. From trams to gelato, from family rituals to local laneways, every detail told their story.
