Travel has always been a passion for Kristen Carroll and Damien Maurice so it was no surprise when they chose a unique location for their wedding.
Damien, 40, proposed to Kristen, 41, on Lord Howe Island before they embarked on a year-long world trip. The Sydney pair then returned to the island, along with their 35 guests, to wed on December 10, 2014.
“We wanted to share this unique place with family and friends,” the bride says of their island wedding.
The ceremony was held at spectacular Lovers Bay, offering imposing mountains on one side and picturesque lagoons on the other.
Earl’s Anchorage hosted the reception and Kristen said there was a real party atmosphere.
“Clearly it was infectious because even the wait staff danced on the counters during the reception,” Kristen says.

Due to the humidity on the island and the lack of a local florist, Kristen opted for quality artificial flowers from Artificial Wedding Bouquets.
Wild storms leading up to the wedding day had Kristen worried. “On the morning of the day before half our wedding party had still not arrived,” she says. “Fortunately the skies cleared and and by that afternoon everyone had arrived on rescheduled flights.”
The couple’s first trip together was a restaurant tour of top regional Australian restaurants. “We were never once bored of each other’s company or conversation,” Kristen says. Not surprising then that it was the first of many travel adventures for the pair.
