Couples could learn a thing or two from teachers Elise Matthews and Aaron Shakes.
The pair, both 28, were married at their vintage boho wedding on December 28, 2013 in Ceduna, South Australia. They had been looking for an excuse to have their loved ones visit them at their new home, and figured a wedding was the perfect one!
“One hundred and eighty friends and family joined us for our special day and majority of those travelled at least 800km to be there,” explains Elise. And not only did they travel far and wide for the day, friends and family collected succulents all year to be used for the bouquets, buttonholes and centrepieces.
The couple made use of local suppliers including their “amazing” photographer Jade Norwood. “We also aimed to only buy things that we could use afterwards, or hire, so there was minimal waste,” says the bride.
And a loving wedding wouldn’t be complete without including the (fur) kids! “Our two dogs played a special part in that they were our ring bearers,” says Elise. “They were both strays that we adopted when we lived in Coober Pedy and they have certainly become a very special part of our family.”

Elise had both her parents walk her down the aisle.
“Aaron is my most favourite person in the world,” smiles Elise.
Elise ordered her gown online from Grace Loves Lace.
“We were the last ones to leave at about 3am, walking home barefoot and pretty happy with the amazing day we had just had,” says the bride.
