Simple elegance sums up the beachside wedding of Dani and Colby, married on August 14, 2013.

“Colby [25] is one of the most relaxed, laid back and selfless people I know,” praises bride Dani, 24. “When it came time to wedding planning his only wish was for it to be simple and something that suited us.”

The pair were wed at Angsana Chapel, Palm Cove in Queensland’s Port Douglas. Although Dani originally wanted a beach wedding, she honoured her late grandparents’ wishes for a chapel ceremony, while still having her piece of the ocean. “The chapel opens up, surrounded by a beautiful deck right on the beach front,” explains Dani. “The view of this place is amazing with 180 degree panoramic views along Palm Cove Beach.”

“People fish off there” was the reaction Dani received when she announced their reception venue of The Old Sugar Wharf in Port Douglas. “But it was exactly what I wanted. The guests were there to watch the sunset as they sat on the deck waiting for our arrival,” she says.

Dani opted for minimal styling and decoration, and her DIY talents had the perfect relaxed impact. “It blew me away when we first walked in as husband and wife.”

Dani’s bridesmaids were dressed in Zimmerman pieces of all different neutral shades and styles. “I had a strand of my nanna’s pearls attached to the back of my dress,” says Dani.

“The Julia Stone song, ‘The Wedding Song’, played as I walked down the aisle,” says Dani. “The guests all had a little giggle when the line ‘we will make babies on the beach under the star dust’ was sung,” she laughs.

“Shaun Guest, Port Douglas Photography, was easily the best investment we made for the entire wedding,” praises Dani. “He captured the real emotion of the day, not just the traditional posed happy snaps.”

The couple recommend an unmanned photobooth as a sure winner with guests. “The open-air unmanned photobooth was full all night,” she says.
