Carla and Luke’s 1920s glam Adelaide wedding
For some brides, they know exactly what they want, but for Adelaide bride Carla, she went in with no vision. It was with this attitude that she was led to her dream dress by Alexis George.
Married on 20 March 2022, the bride wasn’t armed with a Pinterest board and not much of a plan. “Classic, simple, fun”.
In the midst of COVID-chaos, Carla’s relaxed nature brought a calmness to her wedding planning, and it was this that meant that her and husband Luke pulled off a wedding that felt timeless, glamorous, and totally them – topped off with her iconic dress.

1920s glam
Carla and Luke had always loved the elegance of the 1920s, but they didn’t necessarily intend to recreate it. However, when Carla put on her gown, a beaded, body-hugging Alexis George masterpiece, it fell into place.
“I know it sounds cliché, but it really was like something out of a movie — so surreal! I never expected to feel all of that: the goosebumps, the butterflies, the rush of emotions. But when I walked out of the change room and saw my mum, sister, and sister-in-law all react the exact same way, I just knew — this was the dress,” Carla explains.
The skirt that she didn’t know she wanted
When it comes to choosing your wedding dress, you might have a specific vision in mind. Or, at least, some ‘definite no’. But wedding dresses are here to challenge your norm. For Carla, she never imagined herself in anything considered remotely “princessy”.
But it was George himself who appeared with a full tulle skirt. Carla rolled her eyes.
Then the bride donned the dress. Suddenly, the girl who never wanted a puffy dress was living her two-dress fantasy, and loving every second. The detachable skirt meant she could have her elegant aisle moment and tear up the dance floor later without tripping over layers of tulle.
Walking the aisle — with applause?!
Nothing could prepare her for the moment she walked in with her dad and heard the entire room applaud.“I mean, what bride gets applauded walking into her own wedding?!” she laughs. It was surreal, emotional, and instantly unforgettable. Much like the dress itself.
Ask her what she’s still obsessed with? Easy.
“That dress. Forever. It was a work of art.”
She’s already planning to pull it out of storage and display it in their home — a permanent reminder of the day they celebrated love, life, and a style moment worthy of the silver screen.
