If you’re looking to branch into Facebook Ads, or just up your paid ads game, here are some tips on how to write social media ads, from our Social Media Manager, Lucy:

1. Simplify it

Read your ad again and simplify it. Does it make sense to a regular Joe? Get rid of any industry jargon. Make sure the message is clear, don’t make the audience work for it. Simple and sweet is always better!

2. Proofread

No matter how much of a writing expert you are, we all make mistakes. Be sure to have another set of eyes run over your ad before you hit publish, or install something like Grammarly so that you can pick up any little mistakes before you waste money on an ad that is selling “weeding decorations”. Facebook App on iPhone with computer laptop background closeup male hand hold social network on smart device concept.

3. Voice

Create an “ideal customer” and speak to them in their voice. Whether that means writing for a 20-year-old man studying at uni or a 65-year-old woman with a 300k income, find that brand persona and write to that person. Knowing who this person is, what their likes and dislikes are and where they hang out will help you to get your voice right.

4. Test

Try posting something organically (not as an Ad) first and see how it goes before boosting or creating an ad from it. Then, once you have a couple of variations to work from, do an A/B test with those and determine a winner. The best way to do A/B tests is to try different combinations, only changing one element at a time. Internet marketing

5. Revise

Check the data. Go back every day and check how your ads are performing. It’s all well and good to have a heap of clicks to your website from the app- but are they converting into leads? Or sales? Are these $5 clicks worth it for your business? Be sure to revise often and optimise your ad.
