Today, we spoke to music professional Henry Clarke about how weddings are changing and the increasing demand in the industry for authentic wedding musicians.
Tell us a bit about your business and your experience in the wedding industry.
I am wedding musician from Perth / Margaret River, WA and have been actively involved in wedding music for around 3 years. I have been playing music for over 20 years and I perform as voice and guitar for wedding ceremonies, pre-drinks, and receptions.
What do you do to make your business stand out?
I play great songs that my clients enjoy and help create a relaxed, happy and friendly atmosphere for the wedding day. I have a genuine interest in helping wedding parties create their perfect day and LOVE playing music.
How do current couples differ from couples a few years back?
More flexibility in live music placement – ceremony locations, song arrangements, order of proceedings, formality structures and more!
What are some current trends you are noticing in the wedding industry?
I am seeing an increased focus on couples creating a memorable ‘experience’ for weddings. For me, this means more ‘real’ and ‘authentic’ music solutions like live weddings singers/musicians’. With more variety of services and suppliers out there today, clients have more possibilities to tailor-make their day just the way they’d like.
What’s the biggest thing you’ve learned recently that’s helped your business?
Working with Easy Weddings!
If you could give one piece of advice to a brand new wedding professional what would it be?
For most couples, it will be the first time either of them has been a bride or groom, so patience and additional guidance is important.
What are your predictions for the wedding industry in 2018? What do you think will be the next big thing?
I believe more couples will consider ‘experience-adding’ to help make their day memorable and entertaining, like live music, photo-booths and other forms of entertainment.
I’m also hopeful that same-sex marriage will become legal so a new wave of wedding ideas come to fruition.
