We recently had the pleasure of catching up with much-loved Sydney marriage celebrant, Carla Davern, to chat about all things wedding ceremony related.
As seen on Married at First Sight, Carla Davern is an incredible Sydney celebrant known for her vibrant and bubbly personality. Carla absolutely loves love and specialises in crafting personalised ceremonies filled with heartfelt moments, endless fun, and lots of laughs.
Easy Weddings: Hi Carla! Tell us a little bit about yourself and why you became a celebrant.
I’ve been a professional entertainer for many years and fell in love with weddings that way. I just love love and find so much joy in being a part of something so special when performing ceremonies.
How would you describe your celebrancy style?
I pride myself on creating personal, romantic, and fun wedding ceremonies and describe my celebrancy style as fresh and modern. I bring lots of energy and passion to ensure every ceremony I craft is a memorable one.
Absolutely! I love working with all kinds of couples and will personalise each ceremony to suit individual needs. You don’t have to have a formal, traditional ceremony at all. You can keep things light-hearted, friendly and casual or funny, or elegant and simple — or anything you like!
What other services do you offer for weddings?
I work closely with the wonderful team at Lovesick Weddings to offer all-in-one wedding ceremony styling packages. Styling items include wedding arches, chairs, signing tables, rustic ladders, wooden plinths, columns, and aisle runners. We can also provide post-ceremony styling, including drinks stations, lawn games, and grazing tables.
Aside from ceremony styling, I can also organise wedding photography, musicians (I’m also a singer!) and gorgeous floral arrangements. Couples love the convenience of booking all these services through me as it saves them time, stress, and money.
Of course! That’s what I’m here for — to assist with planning and vow writing and answer any questions couples may have. I have a large selection of all types of vows, with something to suit every relationship and personality. You can even mix and match different vows if you prefer.
Do celebrants require a rehearsal?
Aaah! The rehearsal is a hotly debated topic. If a couple specifically asks for a ceremony rehearsal to ease their nerves and make them feel more comfortable, then of course, we can do one.
But if it’s not possible to have a rehearsal, or you don’t have time, don’t worry, I will be there in plenty of time to sort everything — and everyone — out before the ceremony. I make sure everything runs smoothly, so you don’t have to stress!
Can you incorporate special readings if family members don’t speak English?
Of course. More than half of my gorgeous couples have family members who don’t speak English. I have many lovely ideas to make non-English speaking parents, guests, and grandparents feel more welcome. I can phonetically learn some words in your language — as long as you’re happy to coach me a little!
