Fiji Destination Wedding Guide

Happiness is just a destination wedding away in Fiji.

Fiji is said to be the happiest country on Earth, and a wedding in this stunning island paradise will have you and your closest friends and family smiling ear-to-ear all weekend long. Sip poolside cocktails out of coconuts during your sunset welcome party on night one, explore the beautiful white sand beaches by day and snorkel till your hearts’ content before settling into a pre-wedding dinner party on the waterfront. Awake the next morning to a relaxed wedding day that brings together a feeling of intimacy and pure joy. As for the day after your wedding? Stay and relax as long as you’d like. Maybe you’ll even make a honeymoon of it!

Fiji destination weddings are alive with energy. The people, the music, the atmosphere. It can all be described as momentous, but even that would be selling it short. What couples love most about their weddings in Fiji is how easy it all feels. The laidback, happy culture of Fiji is palpable in everything you see and do in this place, and that translates directly into a relaxed wedding experience for you and your guests.

Made up of 333 diverse islands, Fiji is a tropical paradise like no other. Surrounded by thriving coral reefs and dotted with white sand beaches, this stunning country is a place most people only dream of visiting. And yet, here in Australia, it’s practically in our backyard. Just a 4-hour flight from Sydney or 5-hour flight from Melbourne, Nadi is almost as easily accessible as a flight to Perth.

Nadi and Denarau are home to some of the largest resorts in Fiji, making a wedding here easy for guests to get to, as the airport is just down the road. The Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands are also home to plenty of beautiful wedding venues and resorts, accessible via passenger ferries and water taxis. Pacific Harbour and the Coral Coast are home to beautiful resorts, including a few that are sprawling enough to include golf courses.

When to go. July to September is peak tourist season and the best time for sunny skies and low humidity. Shoulder seasons are April to June and October to November — this would be a great time to get better pricing and you’ll see less crowds.

Because of school holidays, December can be really busy. January to March is cyclone season, so less predictable weather for a beach wedding.

If you’re hoping to have your legally binding wedding abroad, Fiji makes it easier than many other destinations. See our detailed guide on How to Legally Marry in Fiji. So long as you follow the guidelines, your wedding will be recognised in Australia.

We usually suggest that couples get the legal stuff out of the way in Australia before heading off to their destination wedding. In this case, you’d still have a ceremony in Fiji, but you would have completed the legal ceremony and documentation in advance, allowing you more time to relax when you arrive at your resort.

Most couples take about 10-18 months to plan a Fiji wedding, but we can arrange an amazing team and wedding package in less time. If you’re on the typical track, here’s a straightforward timeline for planning your destination wedding.

10-18 Months to go. Book your destination wedding package with your Easy Weddings specialist, including your venue, accommodation, celebrant, photographer, and entertainment. Shop for your wedding attire.

12 Months to go. Send your save-the-dates via mail or email, providing a notecard or wedding website with accommodation and travel arrangements information. Choose and order your bridal attire (gowns usually require about a year’s notice).

8-10 Months to go. Confirm your flights to Fiji and arrange your honeymoon accommodation. Finalize all flowers for the ceremony and reception. Confirm your hair and makeup artist for the wedding day.

5-8 Months to go. Chat with your Easy Weddings consultant to answer all of your questions and assist you with planning all the finer details of your wedding. Order your wedding cake if it is different from the package. Finalize the decor and furniture for the event. Finalize the outfits for your wedding party.

2-3 Months to go. Arrange bomboniere or welcome bags with special Fijian treats for your guests. Send out your wedding invitations.

2-4 Weeks to go. Easy Weddings sends your wedding day run sheet with timings and supplier contact info. Together, we’ll meet with your venue event manager to discuss the details of your wedding festivities.

These courses provide a challenging yet enjoyable golfing experience amidst stunning tropical surroundings.

Can you customise a Fiji wedding package for me?

Yes, just let us know what you have in mind, and we’ll get it sorted for you.

Do I have to have a wedding date picked already?

No. In fact, it might be easier for us to find you a venue if you’re flexible with your date.

How do we choose the best Fiji wedding venue for our wedding?

Simply contact us, and our Fiji wedding experts will talk you through the options. Taking your vision, budget, and guest count into consideration, we’ll suggest the venues we think will work best for you. We’ll also present you with package options so you can get an idea of what the wedding will cost.

What’s included in your Fiji wedding packages?

That depends on what you’d like to have included, as we can customise your Fiji wedding package to work for you. Generally, packages include wedding planning with an expert from our team, a ceremony and reception space with basic catering, and the wedding supplier essentials like a celebrant, photographer, florist, hair and makeup artist, and music. You can add on things like videography, transportation, styling, additional decor, a photo booth, and other entertainment like Fijian fire dancers.

Is there a minimum or maximum guest count?

Yes, the minimum for a Fiji destination wedding package is 40 guests. The max just depends on the resort. The larger resorts in Denarau, Nadi, and Coral Coast are usually more equipped to host larger weddings of 150+ guests, while the smaller hotels on the islands are more intimate.

What’s the best time of year for a wedding in Fiji?

Most couples consider July through September to be the best time to get married in Fiji, because the weather is at its best. Think sunny days with low humidity. The shoulder seasons in May and October are a quieter time on the islands, but still offer mostly sunny days.

Can we get legally married in Fiji?

Yes. As long as your marriage would be legally recognised in Australia, your Fiji marriage will be recognised. However, many couples still choose to marry in Australia before heading overseas just to keep the days surrounding their wedding simple and free of the experience of dragging original birth certificates and other official documents with them.

Is Fiji easy for guests to get to and easy to explore?

It depends where they’re travelling from, but there are direct flights from Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Brisbane via Fiji Airways. Qantas and Virgin Australia also offer direct flights to Fiji. The international airport is in Nadi. A large number of Fiji’s hotels and resorts are in Nadi and Denarau, easily accessible via hotel shuttle or taxi. To access the more remote island resorts like those on the Mamanuca or Yasawa Islands, you and your guests will travel via water taxis or passenger ferries.

What’s the best way to get around in Fiji?

Because Fiji is a land of stunning resorts and hotels, many travellers opt to coordinate their local excursions through their hotel concierge. This way, they don’t have to do much coordinating of transportation and instead rely on the hotel to manage how they’ll get around. However, if you have more intrepid guests, taxis, water taxis, passenger ferries, and getting around on foot are all pretty reliable depending on your destination.
