“I don’t have any idea how to write a good speech, but do know how to write a song,” and with those words, the 27-year-old groom (and British boy band member) Tom Fletcher kicked off his rather awesome wedding speech, erm, song.
McFly’s lead singer admitted hating public speaking and, instead, opted to sing his entire speech, which contains heartfelt, but also very funny re-writes of the band’s biggest hits.
The first line of the medley, which is sung to the tune of 2007 hit Obviously. It starts “Recently I’ve been, having a wedding, I’ve married this girl, who’s out of this world, believe me.”
He continues to belt out verse after touching verse, thanking his best friends, groomsmen, the bridesmaids, his parents, his new parents-in-law and, of course, his new wife, Giovanna.
Tom’s heart-felt tribute to his parents is sung to the tune of The Heart Never Lies. His version is The Groom Never Lies, and his tribute to Gia is sung alongside a local youth choir, to It’s All About You.
By the end of Tom’s clever medley the crowd are in tears, and so is he, but they clap along for one last chorus as he belts out the wedding toast, “So here’s a toast please raise your glasses and champagne flutes. Here’s to my beautiful wife, from today for all my life, especially on our wedding night, it’s all about you.”
One of Tom’s bandmates (and a groomsman) reacts to a line in his medely thanking them
