Does a restaurant need to know you’re having a secret wedding?

After a 10 yr engagement it’s time to finally get married! Planning a secret wedding at my 40th bday at a local beachfront restaurant, do you have to book the restaurant using their ‘wedding ‘ packages or can you book/plan under their ‘event’ packages? Just not sure about etiquette regarding this. Not wanting a formal event, just something special without all the wedding fuss, and keep expenses down. Thank you!

We have done this a few times, i have a couple in next week who are holding their birthday celebrations with us, that turned in to a surprise wedding.

Myself, as a functions coordinator would rather know, so i can prepare our team for what is going on, so we can cater our meals around the ceremony and any speeches, photos etc happening. This couples had already booked in our functions package and were already exceeding our minimum requirements, so for us a venue, it didnt matter on the package.

Yes they do.   It is important to make your special day as important as possible.   The venue needs to know this to make things special.

I think it would be best to let the restaurant know.  They will respect your wishes for it to be a secret but you may get extra special attention if they know it is for a wedding.
