The Mint Wedding Venue Sydney 35 +

OVERVIEW

Located on Sydney's historic Macquarie Street next to Hyde Park, The Mint is a sought after heritage wedding venue for its romantic sandstone architecture and colonnaded verandah. This former Royal Mint is now a spectacular event venue where you can exchange vows in the courtyard or Gold Melting Room and dine alfresco on the raised lawn.

The Mint is a time capsule in the centre of it all. Known to be Sydney’s oldest public building, Sydney Living Museums has preserved the property to take you on a journey back to a bygone era. It’s a timeless museum wedding venue where your love story can become the next chapter of its rich history.

The Mint includes three award-winning event spaces for your wedding day, two of which are located outside for the ultimate alfresco atmosphere. Couples are instantly drawn to the Sandstone Courtyard for its rustic pave stones and arched walkways which make a gorgeous backdrop to ceremonies and wedding photographs. The raised lawn introduces a refreshing green oasis that contrasts to the cooling stone setting. Long banqueting tables below festoon lights make a spellbinding scene for a dinner under the stars.

If you need a wet weather option, a stylish glass bar runs along the side of the Sandstone Courtyard for pre-dinner drinks and canapes. Your guests can then be led into the Gold Melting Room for an a la carte meal by the highly regarded Pearl Catering team. This is the largest function space on offer with state-of-the-art technology and an architecturally-designed curved wooden ceiling. It’s an inspiring example of how the venue seamlessly blends the old with the new.

Top three things you’ll love about your Mint wedding:

  • The History. The Mint is the oldest surviving public building in Sydney that has housed a hospital and London’s first overseas branch of the Royal Mint. Sydney Living Museums has immaculately updated its heritage details with attractive contemporary finishes.

  • The Versatility. The Mint has three desirable and flexible spaces for weddings, including a raised lawn, a sandstone courtyard and the Gold Melting Room inside. The dedicated events team would be delighted to discuss your plans and create a suitable event flow.

  • Photo Opportunities. You will never fall short of photo opportunities at The Mint. The historic Juliet balcony provides a picturesque moment and the way the light falls on the stone creates a warm flattering tone to every image. It’s a photographer’s paradise.

Choose from 3 Mint wedding ceremony and reception spots:

  • The Sandstone Courtyard is an open-air terrace surrounded by historic sandstone walls. The raised lawn sits at the centre, next to the stylish glass bar along one side.

  • The Raised Lawn injects a vibrant slice of green at the venue for outdoor wedding ceremonies, cocktail parties and banquets encircled by historical architectural features.

  • Gold Melting Room features contemporary elements of glass, timber and an attractive curved ceiling. It has direct access to the sandstone courtyard (100 dining, 250 standing)

The Mint was such a phenomenal venue for our wedding. The courtyard and buildings are such a beautiful backdrop and the layout gave the perfect flow for our evening. All of the staff were incredibly helpful, and really on top of all the details ahead of time and on the night. I would highly recommend

This was an incredible venue for our wedding and the staff were so accommodating. It was one of the first weddings in their space. It is the perfect mix of heritage architecture with modern design and it was a great space for the ceremony on grass in the courtyard and then a big party in the bar area.

We were 100% happy and were so accommodating for the rehearsal. There was quite a lot of rain and they handled everything well.

Absolutely loved The Mint, Sydney. It was absolutely perfect. The staff were absolutely excellent to us, all the lead up, anything we needed they helped us above and beyond. Could not be any happier with the venue. It was an absolute high-light of the day. Made for amazing photos and memories. Thank you to Rebecca and Caroline for being amazing in helping me organise the day.

What are all the considerations we need for an outdoor wedding?

Hi there, we are considering an outdoor wedding. What are any pitfalls we'd need to prepare for, or ways in which outdoor weddings are handled differently to indoor ones?

The Mint

One of the most important aspects for booking an outdoor ceremony location is that you have a wet weather back-up option either at the same venue, or at an alternate venue. I suggest looking for venues that offer an included wet weather solution suitable for the number of guests you expect to attend, so you don't have to pay additional costs for a second back-up venue, or to hire a wet weather structure such as a marquee, which can add thousands to your budget.

Additionally, you want to consider season and temperatures, shade and position of the sun. If it's Summer, you want to have some shade, or be able to add some nice garden umbrellas to your set-up, and in Winter, you want to have an area where you can have sunshine, which will still be warming, if it's a cooler day.
The position of the sun, and time of year needs to be considered, so you don't end up planning a wedding where the couple end up being blinded by the sun, and can't see each other properly during this important moment (and all the photos are of you squinting), or guests are all facing the sun, and also can't enjoy watching the ceremony, and you are silhouetted again the brightness behind you.

Lastly, try to have the alter set in all shade or all sun, not dappled shade, so your photographer can get the best photos!
