Expert Advice

As a wedding professional, Hidden Bridesmaid offers expert advice to help couples plan their perfect day. Ask a question or read their expert advice.

How do I create a timeline for the wedding day?

I don't know how long everything is going to take so how do I know how to plan out my day? I'm having a winter wedding so I want to do most of the photos before the ceremony. I want to get married during the "golden light" hours so at about 5PM so the reception can follow immediately after.

Hidden Bridesmaid

Wedding Time lines can be tricky to work out as you also don't want to feel like you are on one big treadmill all day running from one location to another. Your ceremony time is the time that all other times can be scheduled from. The next most important timeline for your guests is what time they can start at the reception venue. Start there....and continue from there.

When we did Dinner for the Queen, we learned one amazing lesson - time out everything! So, when you are writing your timeline, add in everything. From showers, to bathroom breaks, to stop and take it all in moments, transport to and fro, meet and greet - everything.

I won't give away our one of our most perfect secret here at Hidden Bridesmaid, but there is one more ingredient that somehow finds you that 15minutes that you are always searching for on your perfect day. Think about how you can do that? What can you do prior to? Who can assist you or do a task for you? It might just be as powerful as our hidden secret, you finding that 15minutes.

Is it necessary or traditional to buy your wedding suppliers thank you gifts?

I wasn't sure whether this is a tradition of some kind? If so, what kind of gift would be appropriate and how much?

Hidden Bridesmaid

I have never been asked that question! I would say thats up to you, but we are being paid for our work and seeing a happy Bride on the day is gift enough.

I want my wedding to be adults only. How can I make sure that people don't bring their kids?

Hidden Bridesmaid

This one is easy to answer. You give people plenty of time so they can arrange a sitter. The only consideration may be for a new born where Mum is feeding and the parents don't mind baby being on a chair next to them. Some will be ok, some may have to decline, which is totally understandable.

How do I tell my friend they're not invited to the wedding?

I verbally invited a friend to my son's wedding and when i told him he said he does not want that friend at his wedding. how do i tell my friend?

Hidden Bridesmaid

Mmmmmm yes, this is tricky. When we talk to couples, and it comes to the invitation list, we really go back to why you are getting married in the first place. If one of your key reasons is to celebrate with those far and wide - then, you need to match the budget with that wish. If you really want that budget to go towards your house deposit - then create a secondary list and invite everyone to a fabulous pub or bar to join for a celebratory drink as you are having a small family wedding!

What are common wedding planning mistakes?

Hidden Bridesmaid

Every wedding is so different, so there are hiccups here and there but we see this one all the time - underestimating actually how much there is to do. I know some people have said that our 244 point check list is a little scary - but thats the thing, when organising a wedding there is just a lot to do. If you have never organised a big event before, or your own wedding for that matter the other thing Brides forget is that so much emotion is involved - and one of those is stress. Who wants to be stressed on the most special day of their life? Just start early and do something every week.

Why do I need a wedding planner if my venue has a Wedding Coordinator?

Hidden Bridesmaid

Well it seems like an obvious question to ask - but your venue is not there to pre-plan your wedding - they are there to run the event on the day at their venue. There are hundreds of steps that happen outside of the venue in the pre-planning, that your venue will have nothing to do with. Like - day, date and time. Or invitation style, or website, or speeches or styling. If you Wedding Co-orindator is up to it, what they can do is breif your venue and prior to your wedding supply really detailed information for them in the language they understand to go into their event order....that absolutely could save you money and stress on the day. If you would like more information, just give us a shout.
