You've already had some brilliant location suggestions here, so rather than add to the list I'll give you the thing I always tell my couples: pick a tight cluster, not a wishlist. The CBD tempts you into wanting ten spots, but every time you climb in and out of the car and walk a block in heels and a gown, you lose ten or fifteen minutes. I'd far rather get you three locations close together and actually relaxed in front of the camera than a rushed dash across the city.

One area that gives you huge variety in a small footprint is around Southbank and the Yarra. From there you've got the river and the bridges, the city skyline, the laneway feel near Flinders Street, and Fed Square, all within a short walk. If you want greenery in the same trip, the Royal Botanic Gardens sit just over the river. That combination means architecture, water and gardens without a single long drive.

The other big factor is light and timing, especially for a Melbourne summer wedding. The tall buildings throw harsh, patchy shadows through the middle of the day, so the laneways can actually be kinder than open plazas when the sun is high. The real magic is the half hour before sunset, which in a January wedding is quite late in the evening, so it's worth checking the sunset time for your date and asking us to build a few minutes into the run sheet to nip out for golden hour. We edit everything in house ourselves, so whatever light we catch on the day is what we get to shape later, and that late soft light over the Yarra is hard to beat.

If it helps, send through your venue and ceremony times and I'm happy to sketch out a route that flows sensibly for your drivers and keeps you actually enjoying the day. All the best with the planning.

Hey there,
Key factors to consider other than what "cityscape" you might want as a background, are: the season & weather on the day, the time of day (taking shadows into consideration, as there are lot in the city) and perhaps most importantly I think - the variety of backgrounds you can achieve with the minimum amount of travel. For instance, I'd be thinking about which CBD locations give easy access (defined as: walking around in high heels) to cityscapes, parklands, river views, wide open areas, narrow alleyways.

It's always good to run these locations through prior to the day with drivers / car suppliers. Some CBD locations can be difficult to park in, particularly if you have a Limo. It will also give the drivers time to map out the most time effective & risk averse travel route, to maximise the photoshoot time.

All the best for your big day!

Hello,

I really like taking photos at the Melbourne Uni, around different cafes in the city (few good rooftop spots), the usual Laneways, Royal Exhibition Building and Botanical Gardens (just outside the city).

Good luck with everything :)

Hi Bride! Theres many beautiful spots in CBD depending on whether you are after city scape, architecture, gardens or laneways. This is usually something I go through with my couples and sometimes I go for a drive before hand to scout out the best spots! Hope that helps!
