Generally yes but it's not always the case.
A really good photgrapher will typically cost more than someone new to the industry or someone that just doesnt have an eye.

Unfortunately, I have seen very average photographers list high prices on their websites which cannot be justified.

You'll need to see a few wedding albums to determin your decision but if someone is expensive you should be able to see why.

Does their work move you? look at expressions, body language, exposure and compesition.

If you're still not sure ask them how long they have been shooting and if they have won any meaningful awards.

Hi,

There is a photographer for almost all budgets. The can vary from very low to the other extreme. The question may be phrased a little differently to understand this price quality relationship. Firstly "better quality" - are you just wanting better quality images or better quality experience. A photographer provides you with more than images. You may get better quality images at all levels of pricing but what about the rest.

  • Customer focus - meeting with you and finding out exactly what you want.
  • Back up equipment in case things don't quite go as planned.
  • Don't forget insurance in case of mishaps.
  • Back up of your precious memories.
  • All the time spent in meeting with you and editing your photos.

Why does the photographer charge what he/she is charging?

There could be many reasons.

  • A new photographer may charge less because of less experience.
  • A very experienced photographer may charge more.
  • The photographer may not need to rely on the income from your wedding.
  • The photographer may not have the same business overheads. (backup equipment, insurance etc.)
  • The photographer may not offer albums or canvases.

At the end of the day you need to find a photographer

  • Look for photographers whose style you like.
  • Meet the photographer and make sure you get on well.
  • Check that the photographer's pricing meets your budget.

Happy planning!

Rod

This is a good question to ask and like generally speaking a higher price would usually provide a higher grade of photographer. There is no doubt though you might be lucky to get a newbie starting out who has an awesome folio, but hiring someone new means they have little experience on running things smoothly. From a photography point of view shooting weddings is high stress. You need to move fast, be diplomatic, understand your client and deliver amazing images. At the end of the day your images/ video will be the one thing to remember things by so It might pay to invest some time in choosing the right one for you. I'd look for a photographer who is professionally accredited with the "Australian Institute of Professional Photographers", who you get along well with and who is thorough in explaining all the details. You also want to get to physically see the end product. Carefully view albums, make sure there is a contract. Is there a pre wedding shoot. If a photographer is very cheap you have to question why and if someone is very expensive and you dont see value then perhaps settle somewhere in between. You also always want to meet the actual photographer. I hope this helps you and any other couples out there.

Price is a huge factor but that doesn't always mean the best is the most expensive. Focus first on how you feel towards their work and how you get on with the photographer. Then you can discuss price. The value is more on what it means to you. If you completely love their work and they are a touch dearer than perhaps others you are considering, the value is in what price you feel they are worth.

Your photos are the biggest part of your day, as soon as your wedding is over and will last a lot longer than any part of your day. There are some that offer relatively lower rates but it is pretty rare that you find a good quality photographer is a charging a budget price. You can't really put a price on your memories if after your day is done, you have photos you are disappointed with.

Not necessarily but usually the pricing reflects experience, service, quality and time spent. The most important is that you like their photos

and like them as a person as you will be spending the whole day with them!

Hope that helps!

Sometimes it does, yes absolutely! I feel the best way to judge who you want to take your photos for your big day , is to meet with several and whoever you "click" with and have some sort of connection, and of course if they are within your budget and you like the photos that they take, go with them. I always get the best results with my clients when I truly click with them, that way they are not afraid to show you their emotion on the day. I usually have several casual coffee meetings with the bride and groom before the day, just so we are all on the same page with what they want me to do. Most photographers will do this though.  I feel its important to like your photographer. I hope that helps. xx jen

My advice on price...

1st Pick your photographer on the person, do you connect with them, are they your kind of person

2nd Do you love their style, presenation and quality of work

3rd Are they in your budget.

Long after the bills have been paid your photos are your memories.

Hope this helps.

It is not 100% accurate all the time. There are many reasonably priced photographers who deliver the same or sometimes better quality compared to some of the expensive photographers. I believe, the best way to compare the quality of the photographer is comparing the portfolio between photographers.

When I say the portfolio, it must contain plenty of high-qaulity photos. It is better not to take a decision of the photographer just by looking at few good photos.
