You're spoilt for choice in that pocket of the Macedon Ranges, so the good news is you won't have to travel far. The two that always deliver for portraits are Hanging Rock Reserve, where you can hold a small outdoor ceremony in a public area, or use the views of Hanging Rock and Mt Macedon, and the Mount Macedon area, where Amanda's tip about Sanatorium Lake is a good one. The towering ash forest and the dappled light up the mountain are gorgeous for couple shots, especially in the cooler part of the day.
If you'd rather keep it simple and stay close to Woodend itself, a few of the local properties have such varied grounds that you barely need to leave for photos. Cadella Park, just between Woodend and Kyneton, has rolling fields with views to Mount Macedon and Hanging Rock, wooden stables, elegant towering hedges, corrugated iron water tanks and original stone walls. Mount Macedon Winery is another, with beautifully manicured gardens and stunning mountainside views that provide fantastic photographic potential in all seasons of the year. Vineyard rows, gums and the odd highland cow give you plenty of texture in one spot.
The thing to plan around in this region is the light and the seasons rather than just the spot. Autumn is the real magic here, all those deciduous trees turning, and it photographs beautifully, while winter gives you misty, moody forest frames if you don't mind rugging up. Whatever location you land on, the most useful thing you can do is give your photographer a rough run sheet so portraits land near golden hour, that last hour before sunset, when the Ranges look their absolute best.
If you let us know your actual venue and the time of year, we're happy to suggest a couple of nearby spots and a loose timing plan so you're not rushing on the day. Every image we capture is also edited in-house by our own team, so the colour and feel of those autumn tones or that forest light stays exactly the way you saw it on the day.
You would need to know where you would like to have your photo's shot.
