Expert Advice

As a wedding professional, Black Avenue Productions offers expert advice to help brides plan their perfect day. Ask a question or read their expert advice.

Does the photographer drive themselves to the locations?

Would the photographer come with us or drive themselves?

Yes, it is easier for the photographers to drive themselves  so you don't have to worry about their transportation. For us at Black Avenue Productions, we usually shoot wedding as a team of 2 to 4 crew members (photography + videography), it is much easier for all of us to car pool in one car as we normally have lots of camera gears at the back of our cars too.
Hope this helps. :)

do i specifically have to tell my photographer what shots i want, or should i trust them

ive read heaps of forums with brides saying their photographer missed the 'dress hanging up shot' etc. to avoid this happening to me, should i be making a list of shots i want for my photographer?

If you have any specific "MUST HAVE" shots that you don't want to miss, be sure to tell your photographer. Communication is key.
We always ask our brides if they have any "important shots" they really like; or if they have any gifts / items that they would like to include them in photos; if they like "staged / posed" photos or prefer all "candid"; if they have any type of style that they had in mind and send me their research photos, so we are all on the same page.

Some brides have a specific list in mind and we will discuss closer to the weding date.
Some brides are happy to let us do our job.
Professional photographers should have experiences + skills to capture all the details to create your love story of the day.

if im not hiring a flash car, can i ask my photographer to not take any arrival pics?

Yes of course!
We will for sure take photos of things that our brides has spent time, energy, heart and money to.
If car is not an important part of the day, we won't take photos as per request. :)

do photographers already know the good photography opportunities at your venue?

what if they havent been there before? wont we just waste lots of time looking for the best place to take photos? is this the kind of thing they should research prior?

What I would do and as should most professional photographers would is, if we haven't already been to that venue before, we sould first google the place, look for any previous wedding photos, any spots near that location for cheeky portrait.
We would also pay a visit to check out the actual spots and the lighting and so on, before your wedidng day.
If the place is too far to visit, we would go there earlier on your wedding day to take empty shots of the venue, and figure out good spots & lighting, so we are well prepared and ready to go.

Research research research! :)

Will cold weather effect my wedding photos?

my date is set for the middle of winter. i'm not talking about rain or wet weather here, i'm talking about bitterly cold weather! will it effect my photos if we pose outdoors? like will my skin be all goosebumpy and ruin the photos, and does a cold expression come across on wedding photography??

Hi Alexina,

Very brave of you to have a winter wedding!

Without knowing the exact weather conditions/location of the wedding it's hard to guarantee the cold will have no affect, however, generally speaking good looking photos is dependant more on lighting then temperature. It can be a freezing cold day, but if there aren't dark clouds and lots of wind then your photos could still come out fine.

In terms of how your skin may show through in photos on a cold day, generally speaking you should be fine unless we do a lot of close up shots and you are feeling really cold at the time. We will also add on skin enhancing when editing your photos, which will smoothen out your overall skin texture.

My advice for you is to keep warm by wearing thermo thighs and even boots underneath your dress (you can change to high heel for photos that will show your shoes). You can also get heat packs from Daiso for $2.8 (I survived so many winters by sticking them all over my body :P)

There're many ways to ensure your Winter wedding photos looks as great as Summer wedding photos, feel free to chat with us if you need more advice :)

Best regards,
Lowina from Black Avenue Productions
