How quickly do we need to book in a band or DJ for our wedding?

Curious at what point in our wedding planning we should be thinking about entertainment?

If your wedding is in a peak month and on a Saturday, we find we book out 8-12 months in advance (sometimes even 2 years ahead!).

It will be a mix of that above combined with the band or DJ you are hiring.
If they are a multi-op company, they might have a few staff members so will have more availability.

Myself, I'm a solo operator, so when I'm booked ... I'm booked!

It will also depend on the popularity of the entertainer you are looking for.
The more popular they are, the higher the chances that you need to book sooner rather than later to avoid dissapointment.

Hi there,

it really depends on the time of the year. Many couples are now booking 12 months and more in advance of the date. However in the Winter months sometimes 6 months is ok. Personally I think winter weddings are fantastic as it is a more comfortable time of the year.

the big 3 book fast. that is venue, photographer/videographer, and venue. those people can do only 1x wedding per day, so book very early. I book weddings for our clients out to 3 years ahead, so the earlier you start looking, the sooner you will get the artists you want.
At the same time, ive filled clients with newer artists the week prior. it all comes down to how pick are you with getting the best option, and how popular is your date!?

As soon as possible! Bands in particular can get booked out 1yr or more in advance, especially in the busier wedding months like April, May, August to October

Hiya,

Thanks for your question.

Usually we recommend booking at least 12months out from your special day.

The venue, setting, and vibe you want for your wedding will greatly influence the kind of entertainment you might like. It's a great idea to start looking at entertainment as soon as you have an idea about this.

Essentially, the sooner the better...that way you have a higher chance of securing the artist you want, and then it's something you can check off your list!

Hope that's helpful.

Yes i agree with all comments here. The more time you can allow the better. Although i also think its important to meet in person or via video call to make sure that your wedding entertainment visions are aligned. This should be done prior to booking anyone! There must be a connection as music is such an important part of your day.

With any supplier you want, the earlier the better. Most are going to want a deposit to secure their service, if you are booking well in advance you can generally get your date reserved without a deposit for a longer period too so you can budget easier.

A last minute booking can go either way, on the odd occassion you get someone really good that just happened to be availavle but alot of the time its many phonecalls just to find an average one.

If you lock in everything from the start, (especially your entertainment as music is the backbone of a great event) then you get the people you want to rock your party with a successful outcome and you have plenty of time to pay off everything before your big day comes.

The earlier the better. At least 6 weeks in advance in my opinion. Enough time to schedule a phone meeting and touch base on what is wanted and needed.

Hi,

I would recommend as soon as possible. Once you have locked in the date with your venue, I would be booking the suppliers straight away. I get so many emails and calls from couples saying they have left it to the last minute and I am already booked.
