Prior to same sex marriage becoming legal we found that few couples who were able to be married overseas wore both an engagement and wedding ring. The main ring was always just the gold wedding ring (thus no need for an engagement ring)

Since the recent legislation was passed we have now found that an engagement ring is purchased (often in silver) as there is more likely to be a bended knee type proposal and then replaced with a gold wedding ring on the wedding day.

What hasn't been established yet is the length of engagement. Generally speaking the shorter the engagement, the less likely an engagement ring would be worn but I believe this will change once same sex couples have the long engagements straight couples have,

This is of course assuming two guys are getting married. If two females are getting married in most instances an engagement ring and wedding ring would be purchased at the relevant times.

Yes they do. The sex of the couple doesn't change the meaning behind a wedding ring. It is a symbol of love and commitment between two people. In our case couples can actually make the ring themselves thereby increasing the emotional connection to the ring and it's symbolism.
