We offer the opportunity for you to make your own ring by hand! Working with one of our experienced Jewellers you will be able roll out gold and assist in the bending, filing, and shaping of your unique ring. We will take photographs of you at each stage of the process and supply a DVD to remember your experience. The photos and movies have often been played at engagement parties and weddings to share their unique experience with family and friends.

I'm having some kind of reaction to my beautiful engagement ring. I adore the ring - but my skin has started peeling underneath :( I'm taking it off at night but it's not getting any better. I don't want to have to give up my ring! Is there anything I can do?

If you only have a reaction under the ring then this is contact dermatisis. If the fingers either side were inflamed then its likely you have an allergy.
Contact dermatitis is the most common source of irritation under the ring. If you have diamonds on the shoulders of your ring, it's likely that a small spec of soap or sanitisiser is in there and as it's in constant contact with your skin, does not dry out.
Remove the ring and have it professionally cleaned by a manufacturing jeweller or clean yourself at home with Cloudy Amonia. This is available in the cleaning aisle of your supermarket. If you can't find this then use Handy Andy as the main ingredient is cloudy ammonia.
Put some in a bowl with warm water and a splash of dishwashing liquid and leave soak overnight. If you have an old toothbrush or baby's toothbrush you can use this to get into the more stubborn areas.
Rinse in clean water and dry with a tissue and your problem should disappear. Give your finger a couple of weeks (or as long as necessary) to dry out and your irritation to clear up. Once this has healed, you can wear your freshly cleaned engagement ring again.
Regular cleaning of your engagement ring is recommend to prevent this problem from reoccuring.
Where should you put your engagement ring during the ceremony?

The engagement ring is usually worn during the ceremony. Either place it on the right hand so it can be transferred to the left once you have your wedding ring. Or just leave it on your left hand and move the wedding ring to the back after the ceremony but before photography of the signing.
How important is a wedding ring?

The wedding ring is about the rest of your lives together. You will wear it every day for the rest of your lives. Your children and grandchildren will inherit your rings, increasing their significance. Often this is the only thing they have to remember you by. We are often asked to incorporate heirloom wedding rings into couples wedding rings, highlighting how important they are to your children and grandchildren. At EverettBrookes, we also offer the opportunity for you both to make the rings yourself! You literally spend an hour and a half with a jeweller, rolling, filing, hammering and sawing a bar of gold into the shape of a ring. We record this process and prepare a movie of you making each other's rings. The jeweller finishes the ring to your design.
'with this ring, I thee wed' is the big moment. Knowing you've made your partners wedding ring or at least designed it together is a symbol and a memory you will have forever.
