Expert Advice

As a wedding professional, Vikki Aldridge - Makeup Artist, Nail & Hair Stylist offers expert advice to help couples plan their perfect day. Ask a question or read their expert advice.

How can I ensure great wedding makeup?

The first step to achieve great wedding makeup is to choose the right Makeup Artist. Do your homework and check their style meets your needs and wants.  Not all makeup artists do instagram makeup and not all specialise in natural makeup.

Next book in a trial asap and dont be afraid to say you dont like this or that.  Remember, as a makeup artist, we dont know you nor will we be offended so please speak up :)

The trial is a great time to get to know your artist and ensure we are the right fit for you.  I believe there is more than just makeup when it comes to a wedding makeup artist.  Ask lots of questions, bring in photos of makeup styles you like.

If you are wanting both hair and makeup done ad you have a large wedding party (3+)  I recommend getting a hairstylist plus a makeup artist to ensure the day or preparations are not rushed.

I ensure I use  quality professional products that are tried and tested to last and look natural.  I also finish off with a setting spray, plus i give you complimentary touch up kit.

Dont forget to have a good skincare regime leading up to your wedding. And drinking lots of water helps immensely as well as getting a good night's sleep :)

how to stop my lipstick coming off on my hubby's face when we kiss after the ceremony?

I always recommend to my brides to wear a matte lipstick ie: a liquid lip for the ceremony.  For photos you can wear a gloss before the ceremony if you like gloss, however have a small handkerchief in your bag so you can blot your lips before you walk down the aisle.   After the "kiss" and ceremony you can apply some gloss :) xx

who usually pays for the bridesmaids makeup?

HI, there are no set rules regarding this. Traditionally the Bride has done so, however these days it has been up to the Bride to decide. It also depends on the Bride's budget too. Sometimes the Bride will pay so much towards the Bridesmaids getting makeup/hair and the Bridesmaids will put in the rest, Sometimes the Bridesmaids pay for the makeup/hair themselves, sometimes the Bride will pay for it. Ultimately it is up to the Bride.

if you want your Bridesmaids to pay for the makeup and or hair then let them know asap so they can budget for it :) I see your wedding date is 09/08/2018 so they will have time to save or put money aside xx
