If you are a lover of all things beauty and have some serious makeup game, then I think you are ready to handle your own bridal makeup. Let's face it (pun intended) you know your own face better than anyone, you know what products suit you and how well they wear throughout the day. Like never before consumers now have access to purchase Pro Products and tap into incredible information from talented people. Tips, tricks and product reviews from the world’s most sought after makeup artists are just a YouTube or Instagram click away.
However if makeup isn't your thing or you just want to relax then definitely hire a professional for the day. Always have a pre-wedding trial to make sure you are comfortable and confident with the artist and look.
Is it better to book one specific make up artist, or a makeup artistry company with multiple artists
As long as the same artist who does your trial is the same artist who does your wedding it shouldn't matter. The benefits of an Agency is backup if the artist is injured or ill and cannot perform the job. Also make sure you see photos of previous work from the exact stylist before selecting as with Agencies sometimes you don't know who has done what. I make sure I allocate the stylists name to each picture.
How do you choose your hair and makeup artist?!?Alexandra M
There are so many different companies and people out there and I'm just finding it so difficult to choose. I dont know how much i should be spending and im no makeup expert so i dont know what I'm looking for. I dont know how to decide, what questions should i be asking? what should i be looking for? Also whats the difference between airbrush and traditional? Will airbrush be better if my wedding is in summer? Hellllpppppppp pleaseeeee
Great question Alexandra and yes it is a virtual mine field out there trying to pick suppliers. Firstly what is your style? have a look at the types of hair and makeup a provider does on their online portfolio and see if it suits you. What are the reviews and feedback like from past clients and do these resonate with what you are after? Price is a hard one but be prepared to pay anything as an average from $80 to $130 per service for a quality experienced provider.
Narrow it down to a few businesses and then get on the phone/email and start a dialouge. Tell them that you have no idea about the process and take notes on what they tell you, a Professional will always ask you lots of questions, listen and give you direction. It is so important that you do this so you have some different experiences to compare.
Regarding airbrush vs traditional it really depends on so many factors and an experienced stylist will go over all of this with you in a consultation or at the trial. Then trust your gut intuition and make sure you feel 100% confident and comfortable as you are spending a whole morning with the stylists and you want to be relaxed, pampered and most of all having fun. Good Luck.. Monique x
Can I bring my bridesmaids to my Makeup/Hair trials?Melanie W
I'm indecisive and need a firm hand to tell me if I look good!
It is not unusual for a bride to bring her maid of honor or mother with her to the trial. Actually it is a very bonding and special experience. It's always nice to have some moral support and styling direction. A good stylist will do a thorough consultation with you first anyway to see what looks are going to suit you and what are achievable. If you are really indecisive have a good look at Pinterest and Google and have some reference images of what you like ready to show your stylist. If you do decide to bring your whole entourage then make sure that the studio or salon has enough room to cater for everyone.
What is a good style of make-up for a beach wedding?Lucia R
Do you have any advice for make-up for a beach wedding?
Hi Lucia, in most cases I have found beach wedding brides like a more fresh, dewy and natural look as Beach weddings are usually more relaxed. Make use of the natural sunlight with hints of highlights above the cheek bones and subtle bronzer across the cheeks, top of the forehead and temples, so you are a stunning healthy glowing bride. I am also a big fan of lashes applied in a natural full way, either invisible band full strip or lots of individual clusters to make the eyes pop. I would recommend a silicone base foundation as it is far more durable for the outdoors and if it does get hot it won't deteriorate as quickly as a water based foundation. I think natural, glowing, bronze beach babe is a look that will never date as it's just naturally gorgeous. Congratulations and good luck x
Do I have to wear my hair up on my wedding day?Jordyn B
I prefer my hair down but everyones saying I should wear it up because it's more elegant and formal. Do bride's traditoinally have to wear their hair up?
Hi Jordan, I understand your dilemma and realistically you need to choose the style that makes you feel beautiful and amazing as it's your day to shine. My only concern would be the weather conditions in Darwin in January and the longevity of the style. Would you be devastated to look back on photos of your hair, messy, frizzy and or curls dropped out? Just some things to take into consideration and maybe a compromise of a half up and half down style may be the answer. Best thing to do is have a trial run in early January around the same time you would be getting your hair done on the day and see what happens?
All the best Monique
