You can't really mix paper flowers with fresh as they will gain moisture from the fresh & crumple & look unsightly.

Fresh flowers are naturally biodegradable, so they’re generally more environmentally friendly than paper flowers, which often involve dyes, glues, and non-recyclable materials. A tip: if you want to be eco-conscious, source locally grown seasonal blooms to reduce transport impact and combine them thoughtfully with any decorative elements. If you really want the paper look or would like to combine them, use paper flowers sparingly as filler accents or in spots where fresh flowers might wilt quickly, so the bouquet stays vibrant longer while still highlighting your fresh flowers.

you certainly can combine them, although the ones I regulalry see are incredibly overly large in comparison to fresh blooms, so a really well designed brief would be required.

Environmental Considerations

  • Paper Flowers
    • Usually made from recycled or sustainable paper, which reduces waste.
    • Can last for years, meaning fewer resources are used over time.
    • Minimal water use compared to fresh flowers.
  • Fresh Flowers
    • Biodegradable and compostable, but need water, energy, and transport resources.
    • Short-lived, so if grown locally, they have a smaller carbon footprint.

Combining Paper & Fresh Flowers

  • Visual Appeal: Paper flowers can be dyed or painted to match any color scheme and can complement the softness of fresh blooms.
  • Durability: Paper flowers are great for elements that need to last (like keepsakes, ceremony backdrops, or bouquets you want to keep).
  • Practical Use: Use paper flowers for structural pieces, large installations, or accent flowers, and fresh flowers for fragrance and natural texture.
