What are some unique catering ideas for my wedding?

I am not interested in a sit down style meal, and I hate buffets. Is there other ways to do this? The only one the interests me so far is food trucks, but can they feed 200 at once?! Should I have a few? Do most venues allow food trucks?

Hi

The food trucks are a new trendy alternative. Two food trucks per 100 guests are required - in case of 200 guests - 4 food trucks will be the norm. Please consider access and parking for the trucks.  Some venues will not allow food trucks on the site and will want their preferred caterers to provide the food.

Hi Christen,

I would suggest to get an empty warehouse for Food trucks access, Sydney Technology park offers that possibility e.g.

Otherwise Canapes cocktail party style with Food Live stations such as Oyster Bar, BBQ, Paella, Wood fire pizza is another option that would require less logistic and probably cheaper too.

We have done some events with other food trucks but certainly you will have to find a suitable venue. For our experience finger food is a nice alternative maybe with the addition of a grazing table, providing the guests with costant flow of smaller servings for a longer period of time.

Hi Christen,

I would suggest that if you are looking for inspiration as well as unique and great ideas for your wedding day then your best bet is to hit the keyboard hard and get on social media! You could spend hours chasing up and speaking to caterers trying to find awesome ideas but your best bet is to get on Pinterest and Instagram and search for those unique ideas! You will find heaps of interesting and cool ideas which you can adapt and make your own and the best part is that it is visual - you don't have to try and picture it in your head...the picture is right there for you to see!

Food trucks can be great although like you say not all can feed 200 at once also this offers less variety for your guests. We have catering weddings were we have had cool little food bars/stands/stations to offer variety to guests this way you can offer different things think - wood fired pizza - oyster station - smokehouse slider bar - paella - tacos - antipasto station - dumpling bar ....the list is endless! A caterer may be able to provide ta variety of these things better than a food truck that focuses on just one food or style of food.

Each venue has their own policies and once you work out what style of food you would like to have on your special day then it is best to ask your shortlisted venues

Cheers

We at Figjam design menus in consultation with the Bride and Groom. Very popular at the moment is the Banquet served family style - A selection of proteins and veg is served per table usually around 6-8 guests for self service - a winner every time!

If your are on the Sunshine Coast, You would have to ask each venue if they allow Food Trucks. I would certainly question them if they could feed 200 at once. I would imagine, not. If you change your mind about having a Buffet, give us a call. 5477-1650 as we do offer unique additions as mentioned below.

We offer brides a Fruit Carving Display on your Buffet Hand Carved by our Chef. Please see our Fruit Carving Galley of Photos

Another Unique offering that we can supply is a whole Roasted Suckling Pig, decorated with fruit & carved at the buffet for your guests. Photos can be sent to you by request, or seen on our front page of our Web site: www.thespitroastcompany.com.au

Hello Christen

I totally agree with you about buffets although we do offer them they are not for everyone. We can cater for a wedding for up to 250 people with a Spanish paella cooked in one huge pan which is spectacular to watch as well as being delicious. We can actually cater for more than 250 but then we start to use multiple pans. Our paellas are all bite size so can be eaten standing up with a fork off a plate. They are also substantial and did I mention delicious. Our paella also ticks quite a few boxes when it comes down to food preferences as it is free of gluten, soy, dairy, nuts and egg we can also offer a small vegan paella on the side and a small non seafood paella for those allergic to seafood

Hope that helps

Kind regards

Louise

Hi Christian,

We are in love with Donut Walls at the moment. I'd love to show you a photo of one we did recently. Feel free to email us and I can send you a pic. We also love grazing stations, which a wonderful way to fill in time between ceremony and reception and create a real wow upon entry. We style this according to your theme. We love the rustic antipasto style for Summer and Autumn, but we can also do vintage or a classic black and white look. The menu we offer is really amazing and varied.

Feel free to email us on info@yourprivatechef.com.au or call for a chat on 9018 9321.

Food trucks are fabulous, but can be tricky for you as a host, as there is a chance the vendors will only have a limited number of each food - once they sell out of an item, your guests may then miss out. For your peace of mind, it's better for you or your wedding planner, to choose a caterer to provide some foods that will be catered to your exact number of guests. that way, no one misses out! I'd suggest your caterers can come to your venue and serve food cocktail style, ie by wait staff handing it around to your guests.
