Pre-reception canapes and drinks timing?

Our ceremony is at 3 pm, I'm guessing it will go for about an hour, and our reception starts at 6pm. Everything will be in the same place, so our guests will have around 2 hours ceremony and reception. One hour of pre-reception canapés and drinks is all we can afford. We thought that we could have the canapes between 4:30 and 5:30, that way the guests are only left doing "nothing" for 30 mins at a time. However, the wedding coordinator at our venue thinks its best to have the canapes 5pm - 6pm, as she thinks that having a drinks "break" of 30 mins before the reception is weird. I think it's weirder to have a whole hour in which the guests are doing nothing after the ceremony, but I could well be wrong. Thoughts?

Hi

The best option is to have some small canapes (could be just little cupcakes or smoked salmon on crackers) and champagne right after the ceremony - around 3.45.  Follow on with more canapes from 4.30 onwards.

Hello

Once a ceremony has finished guests will be expecting a drink and then something to eat

Often they have travelled to the ceremony and havent eaten for a while so they are usually very hungry and wolf down very quickly the first food that goes out to them

I would recommend that you offer them a drink straight after the ceremony then once everyone has a drink say 30 minutes later send out carb rich, filling canapes for one hour to take the hunger off and also to give them something to eat before they drink too much on an empty stomach.

We often cater paella at a wedding so as it is a filling and delicious main course that people can watch being cooked they are happy to have a food break then before the main course is being served.  Apart from it being entertaining whilst being cooked, people also know that a main course is coming and anticipate its arrival

Kind regards

Louise

Absolutely, you have to remember that Guests have possibly not eaten since Breakfast, Straight after the ceremony is best i think

Hi Bruna, my business "Nutrishous" does exactly what you are looking for. I agree with you, the guests have spent most of the day preparing for the wedding and generally won't eat much due to lack of time and (perhaps)  stress. However once the ceremony is over everyone is feeling more relaxed and the more relaxed you feel the more  you will be ready to eat, drink and start to really enjoy themselves.

We have catered for Wedding guests on the beach, for after the Ceremony and before the reception with cheese platters, canapes, chocolate dipped strawberries (delicious with a glass of bubbles) gourmet mini sandwiches etc. It was a real winner according to the bride and groom.

If you would like to talk to me or email me I would be very happy to discuss options.

We also cater for bridal parties including the men of course for pre ceremony nutritious food
