Say I have a 3 tier cake but it's still quite big. Do cake makers quote on number of tiers? Or the overall size/weight of the cake. How is it fair for a 5 tier cake (that is small and skinny) to be more expensive than a 2 tier massive cake?

Hello there Bride to be
The combination of serves and number of tiers will have a bearing on the price, for example a 3 tiered cake to feed 100 will be more expensive than a 2 tiered cake to feed 100. All of course will also depend on the level of detail in the design and the overall finish of the cake.

It's very hard to say . I base my prices on what the bride has designed . Usually I cater for the No of guests that are at the wedding , then if there are extra tiers are added they are priced in accordance with the design answer size of the tier
All wedding cakes are created specifically for the client specifications. Pricing considerations include height of each tier, number of portions, degree of intricacy of decorations, distance to venue and any difficulties in accessing parking and venue entry. Tall tiers and dense (heavy) cake tiers require reinforced support structures which are more expensive. Discuss the differences in pricing with your cake creator and request several quotes from different cake creators. Hi,
This is a tricky question as all cake makers can price differently.
At A Little Bit Fancee we have starting prices for 1 tier cake, 2 tier cakes etc but ultimately will depend on the flavour, number of serves and final design. Also added hand made figurines and hand made flowers also can alter the price.
a 2 tier may be very intricate design and thereofre be priced higher than a simple 5 tier design.

It's based on the amount of time that goes into creating the cake, and if you have a great and trustworthy supplier - then the price will always be fair.
You can always get something cheap from someone who uses packet mix and freezes cakes etc as opposed to us - we bake everything fresh and to order, always from scratch and take the neccessary time decorating - no more than needed, and no less. So you pay a bit more for that quality. There's a cake decorator out there for everyon though! xx
