Hi

The decorations for your special cake is really endless. The bride and the cake maker can discuss what options the bride really want and the kind of look she wants her cake to be like. Ranging from a naked cake with Fresh flowers or artifcial flowers, chcocolates, chocolate drips, macarons, Sugar paste flowers, Edible paints etc.

thank you

Naked cakes are currently trending at the moment, and are the cheapest option. These then can be added with fresh flowers, macarons, drip (chocolate or royal icing) or even fresh fruit such as berries. However you will need to take into consideration that fresh fruit such as berries need to be added to the cake at the very last possible minute to avoid berriy juice seeping. Also the temperature of the day can makethe cake unstable so your decorator must ensure that you cake will not collpase in the heat being so soft. As a naked cake doesnt have the external support of ganache & fondant to help stabilise the structure.

You can also have a buttercream decorated cake. People tend to opt for these for an ultra modern look, or because they simply don't like the taste of fondant. However, once again, these can require refridgeration depending on the buttercream used and the temperature.

Fondant cakes can be made to look tradtional, vintage, or modern.

These can be decorated using various moulds, stencils, lustre dusts, gold/silver leaf, piping detail, paints, marbling effect, ruffles (or other textures) sugar/fresh/silk flowers (or other floral arrangements such as cacti, branches, leaves)

And then there's acrylic cake toppers or monograms, roman numerals etc...

Hope this helps!

There are soooo many options, which can be exciting, or daunting. Your cake artist should make this process very easy for you, that's what I see my job as - I do this every day, and this is probably the first time you're doing it ! ;) So I usually would start by sending you a range of different styles and designs and we narrow it down from there.
Perhaps start having a look on Pinterest or even google images - or search the hashtag #melbourneweddingcakes and #weddingcakesmelbourne to see if there are any designs you really love.
If you need any help, you know where to find me :) Good luck with the wedding planning !
