On your special day, you will be required to sign,

Your official marriage certificate, which will be sent in to be registered.

Sign in the celebrant registry book, which is kept with the celebrant for records,

And finally, you will sign, a Certificate of Marriage which is your record to keep!

All signatures, are to be the same,

Cheers,

Three certificates are signed by the marrying couple, the two witnesses and the Celebrant, so there are 15 signatures overall

Of these Certificates, only one is a Commemorative or Cermonial Certificate that the couple get to keep.

The other two are for legal record, as one will will be kept by the Celebrant and the other lodged with the Registry of Births Deaths & Marriages.

The Marrying couple only sign one commemorative certificate. However they do sign three times on the day. The other two signatures are certificates of marriage forms.  Carleen

No.  The only signing is the NOIM, the declaration and the marriage certificate.

You, your husband and two witnesses sign three documents after the ceremony. Two official marriage certificates, one of which I have in a bound book and it remains with the Celebrant the other is sent to the Department of Births Deaths and Marriages and the third is the Commemorative Certificate which is yours to keep and with you for your photo after the ceremony.

On your wedding day, you, your partner, along with your two ófficial' witnesses sign three documents

  1. a Registry Book which is kept by the Celebrant,
  2. a Marriage Certificate which is sent by your celebrant to the Department of Births Deaths and Marriages. Upon its receipt by this Department, they will record your Marriage officially.  This may take some weeks, and
  3. a Certificate often called the Commemorative Certificate which is yours to keep.

These are all legal documents recognising your Marriage.

Once your marriage is registered by the Department of Births Deaths and Marriages, an official marriage certificate can be requested by you or through your Celebrant,  This Certificate is mostly required by Government Departments such as Roads and Maritime Services, to say change your Drivers Licence, and many other Departments, to enable you to change your marital and name details.  You do not sign this one. But keep it safe and never leave it with any Department or send it because if you lose it, you will have to apply for another!

Just to add to all this confusion, there are various styles of Certificates that you can request from the Dept. of B.D. & M, varying in cost.

One of which is called a "Commemorative Certificate".

I hope this helps.  Hazel :)

As other Celebrants have indicated, you sign three documents on your wedding day. One is a commemorative certificate which you keep.  You also sign two official Marriage Certificates.  One of the Marriage Certificates remains with the Celebrant while the other is sent into the Registry Office with the Notice of Intended Marriage that you lodged when you first booked your Celebrant.  Once your marriage has taken place it is also important to apply for a Registered Marriage Certificate  as this is the one most Authorities will want to see. You fill in an Application form and take it, or post it, to your State's Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages. It will cost you $49. I always make it easy for my couples to get this certificate.

Just one commemorative

Then there is the official

and finally the Register

Three times signed

One commemorative

best to have a professional explain it to you in person, so you can touch, feel and sight the certificates. Helps get you more excited about the big day too!!

Many celebrants print legal information on their websites and you can also find out more about the certificates, how you can access them and what they all mean at the Attorney General's Website.

Happy planning :)
