Normally one month is the turnaround time from signing the Notice of Intended Marriage, however you can make application for shortening of this time under certain circumstances and one of these specific reasons is on medical grounds. Along with your application to a prescribed authority you will need a Notice of Intended Marriage, medical certificate and a letter from your chosen celebrant to support your application. The celebrant you chose can assist you with this. My best wishes hope it works out for you and your girlfriend.

Hi Adam

Yes you can get married in a short amount of time.  You just need to write asking for a shortening of time for the Notice of Intention to Marry form.

Yes it is possible to marry within a week, the law does allow those kind of exceptional circumstances.

You celebrant can provide you with all the information you need to lodge a request with your local Birth Death and Marriage department.

Hi Adam

Echoing Rhyan & Catherine's sentiment, I am sorry to hear of your predicament with your girlfriends' mother's health, and hope you managed to find the right answer in time.

If it is still helpful, you can definitely apply for approval from a prescribed authority for a shortening of time with valid reasons.

I am sorry that the questions to here aren't answered more quickly. I hope you were able to get some good advice. As noted, it is possible to bring a wedding forward for medical reasons to have a shortening of time. If your girlfriend's mother is in hospital, most hospitals have a chapel that can be arranged in circumstances like this. I hope you were able to approach a  celebrant close to you and bring your dream into reality for you and your girlfriend.

Hi Adam,

I hope you have been advised of an answer already.  Apologies that this advice is quite late.

Yes you can if certain circumstances apply and approval has been granted by a prescribed authority.

You would need to complete a Notice of Intended Marriage and apply to a prescribed authority for a 'shortening of time' due to medical reasons.  It would be beneficial to have a medical certificate or letter from the doctor with your application.

Contact a celebrant near you who will assist and guide you.  Best wishes to you and your partner.
