From gardens and beaches to chapels and reception venues, Dorothy will be there to support you every step of the way.

The price of Dorothy’s service starts at $850 for a ceremony held in the Illawarra region, and additional travel costs apply to locations outside of that area.

“Dorothy Walter kept it all together while the world was literally falling apart so we could get married. Not only was it a beautifully worded and personal ceremony, she also went out of her way to make sure we had a handfasting included and a gorgeous poem to wish us on our happy way. Top notch job and wouldn’t have had it any other way.” Katrina W

FAQ

I come with with an open mind, heaps of enthusiasm and a genuine desire to ensure your ceremony is hassel- free, includes a touch of fun and is inclusive.

There's nothing I love more than being  a part of something so personal and important as a wedding ceremony.  As your celebrant, I will guide you through the process, as big or as small, as you'd like it to be.  I will commit my time and energy to helping you create the ceremony you envisage, bringing it to life and support you both throughout the whole process.

ABSOLUTELY!  Love is all encompassing and knows no boundaries.

Well you already have..   Congratulations, you've said yes, set the date and now you've started your search for the celebrant.

This is where I come in.  At our first meeting, we will run through the legal requirements,  the documentation you need to provide and more importantly, the ceremony you are looking for.

From the minute you decide to book me, I'm yours!  Unlimited phone and email communications.

Usually, yes.   I have lots of samples and ideas too, so if you need any help just ask.

You should allow 30 minutes from the time our bride/groom starts their walk down the aisle to the moment you are both making your way back through that same aisle to the cheers of your wedding guests.

Yes.   I bring my own MA-303 Series Personal Wireless PA system.  I also use a wireless microphone and provide a hand held microphone for you the couple to use when saying your vows.

If a ritual is what you are looking for, I certainly do.  There are a number of rituals available and when we meet, we will spend time running through these and seeing which one best suits you and your ceremony.

The benefit of a wedding rehearsal is to ensure that you and your partner know just how things will progress.  It also helps if your wedding party can also attend the rehearsal, so they too know what to expect on the day.  A rehearsal provides a great opportunity for the whole wedding party to ask questions, make any changes if needed and feel nice and comfortable so that the actual day runs smoothly.

The rehearsal is usually held about 2 weeks prior to the big day, but doesn't necessarily need to be held at the actual venue.  If you're doing an outdoor wedding, the rehearsal can be held at a local park similar to the actual venue.  Alternatively, if the wedding is taking place indoors, if the venue is available, it's always best to try and do it there, but not imperative.  A home, such as yours or your parents can also be used.

Where to start! Dorothy was more than we could've ever hoped for in a celebrant! Even though, due to wild circumstances, we only got to meet Dorothy in person the week of our wedding, everything was done virtually before that. We felt so comfortable with her, as if we'd known her forever. She is so warm and inviting and makes it easy to be able to talk to her about anything. We could not thank her enough for making our ceremony so special and for always being available to chat about anything and everything! The ceremony she made for us was wonderful and we had probably every person at our wedding telling us how beautiful it was! I could not recommend her enough, if you're getting married and need a celebrant; Dorothy is definitely the person to have!

Thank you and Banjo for such lovely kind words. The time we all spent together, getting to know you both was absolutely wonderful and you made it easy for me to create your ceremony. Thank you again!

November 2021

We engaged Dorothy to officiate our intimate ceremony in the midst of COVID-19. She remained unflappable throughout several changes in the lead-up to the big day, kept us up-to-date on all developments and shared our determination to go ahead with a reassuring can-do attitude. Warm and good-humoured, Dorothy was remarkably flexible and available throughout the process – even going above and beyond to scout out our wedding location for us when we were trapped outside the state. Her experienced advice in all the ins and outs was invaluable in everything from bureaucratic gymnastics to seating arrangements and details for the day. Dorothy helped us create a beautiful, intimate ceremony with a minimum of fuss, which all our guests agreed was one of the best they had seen. She has an easy, unobtrusive yet characterful and cheerful presence that puts everyone at ease. Thanks so much for an unforgettable day, Dorothy!

Thank you so much for your kind and lovely words. It was a total delight getting to know you and Matilda, seeing how well you complimented each other when we spent time together made it easy for me to create your ceremony. It was fun, relaxed and always a pleasure spending time with you both and an honour and a pleasure to be the one you chose to officiate your marriage. Thank you.

Dot was the best celebrant any newly weds could ask for. She was helpful and informative from the first day we met to the day we tied the knot. We asked one of our family members to do the ceremony and Dot was so accommodating, helping them through the preparation and presentation, only doing her legal parts throughout the ceremony. We appreciate everything Dot has done for us and recommend her with the highest regards. Thank you for everything Dot! Mark and Emma Taylor

Is it OK to ask a celebrant to wear a costume at our wedding?

Hello! I've read some responses to celebrants dressing in a matching style etc. Is it rude to ask if they wouldn't mind wearing a costume? I've read somewhere a couple got married by batman and then the obvious Elvis option.. I like the idea of an iconic character and think it would be something to remember but wouldn't want to offend anyone or make it a bad experience. TIA

A Day with Dorothy

It's your wedding and your celebrant should and will hopefully have an open mind.   If you want him/her to wear a specific costume you should ensure you ask at the time of requesting a quote/first meeting.   If you wish them to wear a specific style of costume then you should also anticipate that the cost of that costume will be added to your invoice and be included in the celebrants T&C's Agreement.  Hope this is of assistance.  GOOD LUCK AND ENJOY YOUR BIG DAY!!

Confusion around roles of matron of honour, maid of honor and who can be a witness with the best man

I have a Maid of Honor who is unmarried and a Matron of Honor who is married. I want my Matron to be a witness along with the Best Man. Even though she is married, can I have her as the Maid instead?

A Day with Dorothy

Traditionally, the Matron of Honor is already married, and a Maid, unmarried.    Your choice of witnesses is entirely up to you the couple.  It can be a best friend, Maid of Honor or Matron of Honor.   Obviously in your case your Matron of Honor and the Best Man will be your witnesses.   If you want to keep with tradition, then no, your married Matron of Honor cannot be called a Maid of Honor.   I hope this helps and has clarified things for you.  Good Luck on your BIG DAY!
